Description
Yato cordless backpack sprayer 12V (YT-86220) is a battery-powered pressure sprayer carried on the back, with a 16-litre tank, a built-in 12 V 8 Ah gel battery and a 15 W solar panelthat charges the battery during use. The pump produces a pressure of 0.15–0.4 MPa (1.5–4 bar) and a flow of up to 3.1 l/min without hand pumping.
The solar panel is fixed to the holder on the tank at an angle and connected to the charging socket; in sunlight it charges the battery while you work and extends the operating time. With the mains charger (110–240 V), charging an empty battery takes about 8 hours. Next to the charging socket there is an LED indicator and a battery voltmeter.
The tank is made of acid- and corrosion-resistant polypropylene, the lance of stainless steel. The lance handle has a trigger that can be locked for long spraying, and the output is adjusted with a control knob. The filling opening has a removable filter that keeps impurities out of the pump and nozzle.
The empty sprayer weighs 5.8 kg and 21.8 kg when full. The padded shoulder straps have a chest strap that spreads the weight across the back; the sprayer can also be carried by the handle on the lid. The power switch is at the bottom of the tank, and the unit is switched on only once the sprayer is on your back.
Uses and suitability:
The sprayer is intended for spraying water and non-toxic plant protection and plant care products on crops, and for applying cleaning and disinfecting agents.
- Gardens, greenhouses and growing areas: Plant protection and foliar fertiliser spraying with the 16-litre tank; battery operation removes hand pumping and keeps the pressure even.
- Orchards and vineyards: The pressure setting of 0.15–0.4 MPa and the adjustable output suit both fine misting and a longer-range jet.
- Storage buildings and animal shelters: Pest control, disinfection and applying detergents; acid-resistant tank.
- Away from mains power: The solar panel charges the battery in the field, so the sprayer works through long days without mains electricity. The sprayer can also be used as a water source for tools that need water cooling.
Other Yato battery-powered garden machines include, for example, the Yato cordless pressure washer 18V 23 bar, body only, Yato cordless trimmer 18V 102-123 cm 300 mm, body only and Yato cordless leaf blower 18V, body only. The Yato cordless backpack sprayer 12V differs from the sprayers in the Yato 18 V range in that its battery is a built-in gel battery, not an interchangeable Li-Ion battery.

Instructions for using the Yato cordless backpack sprayer 12V:
Getting started: Charge the battery before first use: turn the power switch to O, open the cover of the charging socket, and connect the charger to the socket and to the mains. The red LED is lit while charging, and the green one shows that the battery is full. Do not use the sprayer while it is charging.
Fitting the lance: Put the nut, compression sleeve and seal on the end of the lance, push the lance into the opening in the handle and tighten the nut by hand. Fit the nozzle to the other end of the lance in the same way.
Filling: Always fill the tank through the filter and close the cap. Never start the pump when the tank is empty, and do not turn the sprayer upside down during use.
Spraying: Lift the sprayer onto your back, adjust the shoulder straps and chest strap, and turn the power switch to I. First point the nozzle in a safe direction, press the trigger and check that the spray is even. Adjust the output with the control knob; lock the trigger for long spraying.
Solar panel: Attach the hook to the underside of the panel, fit the panel in the holder on the tank with the cells angled upwards and connect the cable to the charging socket. Keep the surface of the cells clean.
After work: Release the trigger, switch off the pump, release the pressure by pressing the trigger and empty the tank. Rinse the tank with clean water and run the pump for about a minute if you sprayed anything other than water. Dry the filter, lance and nozzle. Fully discharge the gel battery and charge it fully once every 6 months.
Warnings:
- Read the instruction manual before use. Wear protective clothing, protective gloves, safety glasses and respiratory protection.
- Do not point the nozzle at people or animals, and do not spray into the wind. Do not eat, drink or smoke in the work area.
- Water and non-toxic plant protection products only: no corrosive, alkaline, flammable or unknown substances. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the product being sprayed.
- Do not start the pump with an empty tank and do not turn the sprayer upside down: the pump will be damaged.
- Do not use the sprayer while it is connected to the charger. Charge only with the supplied charger, in a dry place.
- Do not clean the unit with petrol or other flammable liquids: risk of explosion.
- Store at 0–40 °C; freezing water damages the pump. Not for use by children.
- Always carry with both shoulder straps; start the pump only once the sprayer is on your back.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does the solar panel charge the battery of the Yato cordless backpack sprayer 12V fully? The panel’s charging current is low: a full charge with the panel takes tens of hours. The panel’s job is to maintain the charge during work; the main charging is done with the mains charger in about 8 hours.
Is the battery replaceable? The battery is a built-in, maintenance-free 12 V 8 Ah gel battery. It is not part of the Yato 18 V battery system.
How much does the sprayer weigh when full? 5.8 kg empty and 21.8 kg with the 16-litre tank full.
Which substances may be applied with the sprayer? Water and non-toxic plant protection and plant care products, as well as detergents and disinfectants. Corrosive, alkaline and flammable substances are prohibited.
What is the spraying pressure? The diaphragm pump produces 0.15–0.4 MPa, or 1.5–4 bar; the output is adjusted with the control knob on the handle, up to 3.1 l/min.
Can I clean the nozzle myself? Yes: open a blocked nozzle with a needle thinner than the nozzle opening, or replace the nozzle with a new one.
Recycling instructions:
Recycle the cardboard packaging in cardboard collection. The Yato cordless backpack sprayer 12V is an electrical device with a lead-based gel battery: take a discarded sprayer and charger to WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) collection and the battery to battery collection or the retailer, not to mixed waste. Rinse the tank and dispose of plant protection product residues according to the product manufacturer’s instructions.
