Description
The Yato safety hook YT-74230 is a large safety hook with automatic locking, designed as a critical component of industrial fall protection systems. Certified for a maximum load of 100 kg, this component reliably connects fall arrest harnesses (EN 361) to anchor points or shock absorbers in demanding construction and installation environments.
The hook is made of hardened carbon steel, which guarantees a static tensile strength of over 22 kN in extreme conditions. The choice of material and correct heat treatment ensure maximum breaking strength and resistance to deformation under heavy load, protecting the user from the dynamic impact force of a fall.
The large 52 mm gate opening of the component is sized for quick, unobstructed attachment even to thick structures such as standard scaffold tubes, the edges of I-beams and anchor cables. The self-closing spring mechanism prevents human errors in attachment and guarantees that the gate cannot open accidentally while the system is under load.
The product has been rigorously tested in an EU-accredited laboratory and meets the requirements of classes A (anchor connector) and T (terminal connector) of the European EN 362:2004 standard. The mechanism is designed to withstand large temperature changes and stays fully reliable in the temperature range -40 °C … +58 °C, which makes it an excellent choice for year-round outdoor use in Nordic conditions.
Intended use and suitability:
The Yato YT-74230 safety hook is suitable for high-risk work environments that require constant changing of anchor points or attachment to thick structures.
- Scaffold erection: Thanks to the 52 mm gate opening, the hook can be attached directly to scaffold tubes 50 mm in diameter, which ensures fast, uninterrupted protection for erectors while they move and change position.
- Pole work and mast installation: Ideal for use as part of a Y-type (twin-leg) shock absorber lanyard on high mast and lattice sites where attachment points have to be changed safely in alternation.
- Roof work and anchor systems: Can be connected directly to fixed anchor points, safety rails or steel cable systems to EN 795 as a temporary or permanent fall protection connector.
Package contents:
The safety hook is supplied ready to be integrated into an existing fall protection system.
- Yato YT-74230 safety hook: 1 pc EN 362:2004 approved carbon steel safety hook.
- Product documentation: Manufacturer’s quality certificate, original instructions for use and a serial-numbered inspection card for tracking the component’s life cycle.
Features:
The product is designed to maximise safety and performance through its mechanical properties.
- Automatic locking: The spring-loaded gate closes and locks immediately when released, which prevents an accidental or careless connection from opening.
- Large 52 mm gate opening: The wide gate allows attachment directly to industrial structures, removing the need for separate intermediate anchor slings in many scaffold installations.
- Corrosion-resistant carbon steel construction: The material and its surface treatment are optimised to withstand moisture, dirt and industrial conditions, keeping their strength and the locking smooth.
- Standards compliance: Tested and approved to EN 362:2004 to protect the user from the financial, physical and legal consequences of falls.
Technical specifications:
All numerical and structural values are based on the manufacturer’s laboratory tests and current EU standards.

Yato YT-74230 safety hook instructions for use:
Correct installation and daily inspection are a precondition for the safety hook to work as required as part of a fall protection system.
1. Inspect the hook visually and mechanically before each shift. Look for signs of corrosion, cracks, deformation or wear on the body and hinge area.
2. Test the gate by opening it fully and letting go. Make sure the automatic spring mechanism returns and locks the gate shut quickly, firmly and without friction.
3. Connect the safety hook to the loop of an approved shock absorber (EN 355) or lanyard (EN 354), making sure the pull acts only along the major axis of the safety hook.
4. Attach the hook to the anchor point you want (EN 795). Check manually by testing that the hook has closed completely around the structure and the gate is not resting against the anchor point.
5. While working, make sure the hook is not exposed to side loading, sharp edges or crushing, which could prevent the locking mechanism from working normally or reduce its breaking strength.
Warnings:
Failure to follow these warnings can lead to serious injury or death.
- Danger to life from misuse: The safety hook is part of a complete system. It must not be used as a lifting accessory, for securing goods or in a system that does not include suitable shock absorption.
- No side loading: The hook is designed to withstand a strength of 22 kN only along its major axis with the gate closed. Cross or transverse loading on the gate or the side of the hook breaks the hook at a significantly lower stress.
- Chemical hazard: Do not expose the safety hook to strong acids, solvents or other corrosive substances, which can make the steel microscopically brittle or break the spring mechanism of the lock.
- Immediate removal from use: If the safety hook has taken the dynamic impact force of a fall, it must be taken out of use immediately and destroyed, even if it shows no external damage.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What size and shape of tube can the Yato YT-74230 safety hook be safely attached to?
The maximum gate opening of the hook is 52 mm. It is designed to be attached directly to scaffold tubes, anchor bars and similar structures up to 50 mm in diameter, so that the automatic gate can close freely behind the structure.
Can this safety hook be used in freezing temperatures and winter conditions?
Yes. The safety hook has been tested to work reliably at temperatures of -40 °C … +58 °C. In winter, however, the user must make sure that no ice builds up in the spring mechanism, as it could prevent the gate from locking automatically.
What standards does the hook meet, and is it suitable for professional fall protection?
The hook has been tested in an EU-accredited laboratory and is a legal fall protection component for professional use that complies with EN 362:2004 (classes A and T). It is designed to prevent failures in the system during a free fall.
Can I attach several lanyards to the same safety hook?
No. The safety hook is designed and certified to connect only one attachment point to one anchor point. Connecting several lanyards or karabiners to each other (chaining) can cause mechanical leverage and a dangerous possibility of cross-loading, and it reduces the hook’s 22 kN safety strength.
Recycling instructions:
When the safety hook reaches the end of its service life or is taken out of use after a fall or damage, it should be recycled as metal waste. Before it goes to metal recycling, the hook must be made physically unusable (for example by cutting through the gate with an angle grinder), so that it is not picked up by mistake and put back into life-threatening use. The packaging materials of the product (plastic and the paper/cardboard of the instructions) are sorted into their own recycling bins according to local regulations.
