Description
The BeaverCraft leather strop is a comprehensive sharpening set containing a quality strop made of genuine cowhide and green polishing compound. This combination is designed for regular maintenance of the edges of wood carving knives, knives, chisels and other fine tools, for removing the burr and for achieving an extremely sharp, razor-sharp result. Regular use of the strop keeps tools cutting longer and reduces the need for heavier sharpening on whetstones.
The leather strop is made of durable cowhide and measures about 200 mm long, 75 mm wide and 4–5 mm thick. The firm leather gives an optimal surface for finishing the cutting edge. The green polishing compound supplied is a solid, waxy bar that is applied to the surface of the leather. The compound contains fine abrasive, which makes polishing more effective and helps achieve a mirror finish and extreme sharpness with little effort. The set weighs only 0.06 kg, which makes it easy to carry.
In use, the leather strop and polishing compound work together to remove the microscopic burr (wire edge) formed on the cutting edge during sharpening or use. This ensures the blade cuts wood cleanly and does not tear or crumble the material, which is crucial for a successful carving project. The set is excellent both for preparing new blades and for regular maintenance of blunt blades, extending the life of the tools and improving the user experience.
Intended use:
- Maintaining wood carving knives: The product is ideal for regular sharpening and finishing of wood carving and whittling knives. It removes the burr and maintains extreme sharpness, ensuring a clean cut and preventing the wood from tearing.
- Fine polishing of blades: The leather strop is used with green polishing compound to give the blade a mirror-like, friction-free surface. The fine compound removes microscopic unevenness and ensures smooth cutting.
- Extending the sharpening interval: Regular use of the strop keeps the blade cutting longer and reduces the need for heavier sharpening on whetstones, saving time and extending the life of the tool.

BeaverCraft leather strop with polishing compound instructions for use:
Place the leather strop on a stable, flat surface with the leather side up. Rub the green polishing compound evenly onto the surface of the leather until there is a thin, even layer. You can warm the leather slightly (e.g. with a hair dryer) or add a small drop of oil so that the compound spreads better. When stropping, place the cutting edge of the knife against the strop at the same angle as when sharpening. Draw the blade along the strop spine first, never cutting edge first, so that you do not damage the leather. Repeat the movement several times on each side of the blade until the burr has gone and the blade is mirror-bright. Store the set in a dry, clean place.
Warnings:
- Keep the product out of the reach of children and pets.
- Always use the strop carefully and in a controlled way. Sharp tools can cause serious injuries if they slip.
- Keep your fingers out of the path of the blade.
- Do not press the blade too hard against the strop, so that you do not round the cutting edge.
- Although the polishing compound is classified as non-hazardous, avoid getting it in the eyes or mouth. Wash your hands after use.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
- How often should polishing compound be added to the strop?: Polishing compound should be added to the strop as needed. When you notice that the blade no longer polishes as effectively or the compound has worn off the surface of the leather, add a new thin layer.
- Can this strop be used without polishing compound?: Yes, the leather strop can be used on its own to remove the burr, but using the green polishing compound makes polishing significantly more effective and helps achieve a razor-sharp result faster and more easily.
- How is the leather strop cleaned?: If the surface of the leather clogs with old compound and metal dust, you can carefully scrape the surface clean, for example with a blunt spatula, or sand it lightly with fine sandpaper. After cleaning, add a new layer of polishing compound.
Recycling instructions:
The leather strop can be disposed of as energy waste or mixed waste. Leftover polishing compound is disposed of as mixed waste. Packaging materials (cardboard, plastic) should be recycled at the collection points for them.
