Description
Narex “Standard Line” turning chisels are developed to give a reliable, cost-effective option for hobbyists and occasional woodturners who value traditional European quality.
The blade of the chisel is made of traditional tool steel, heat-treated to a hardness of up to 60 HRc. This guarantees good edge retention in normal use. The handle is made of durable beech and is painted, which protects the wood from dirt and moisture. The Standard Line range offers excellent value for money for getting started in turning.

Instructions for use and maintenance:
Before you start turning, always make sure the workpiece is firmly fixed and the tool rest of the lathe is set at the right height and as close to the workpiece as possible. Use the parting tool for cutting; push the tool calmly and straight towards the axis of rotation. Keep the tool sharp; a blunt tool heats the wood and increases the risk of a “catch”. Sharpen the blade regularly, for example on a bench grinder, and finish with a honing stone. Take care not to overheat the blade while sharpening, so that its hardening is not affected. As the blade is not HSS or stainless steel, protect it with a thin layer of oil during storage to prevent rust.
Warnings:
Woodturning involves risks. Always wear suitable personal protective equipment, at least safety glasses or a full face shield, to protect your eyes from flying chips. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery that can catch on the rotating piece. A parting tool can “catch” if it is fed too aggressively or at the wrong angle, which can throw the tool or the workpiece. Learn the correct cutting technique.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is the difference between the Standard Line and Profi Line ranges?
Standard Line is aimed at hobbyists, and its blades are traditional tool steel with painted handles. The Profi ranges are intended for more demanding use and often use more heat-resistant HSS (High Speed Steel) and more ergonomic handles made of waxed/oiled wood.
Is this blade HSS steel?
No, Standard Line chisels are made of traditional tool steel hardened to 60 HRc. It is a good material for hobby use, but needs care when sharpening to avoid overheating.
Recycling instructions:
The steel part of the product can be recycled through metal collection. The wooden handle can be disposed of as energy waste.
