Description
Painter corner tape white 50 mm / 30 m is a metal-reinforced corner tape developed especially for finishing and smoothing the corners of plasterboard structures. This product is designed to ensure mechanical protection and structural stability at corners of rooms that are often exposed to knocks and stress. The tape consists of a fibre or paper base with two parallel metal strips integrated into its core.
The metal-reinforced construction is the key technical feature of the product. Metal reinforcements allow the tape to be folded precisely to the required angle. Although the fold is usually 90 degrees, the flexible centre seam lets the tape adapt steplessly to other angles too. When filled, the tape creates a straight, sharp corner that takes everyday knocks more effectively than plasterboard alone or unreinforced paper tape.
The product is fixed to the structure by embedding it directly in wet jointing or ready-mixed filler. The porous surface material lets the filler soak into the surface of the tape, which helps prevent air bubbles and reduces the risk of the tape coming away from the surface after the filler has dried. This metal-reinforced corner tape is equally suitable for treating internal and external corners.
The 30 metre roll, 50 millimetres wide, supplied in the package ensures plenty of material for filling work on large sites. The tape is worked from the roll and cut with tin snips or strong side cutters, so it can be cut accurately at the metal reinforcements. Painter TAS0612 makes the installation step more efficient and supports straight jointing of plasterboard surfaces on walls, ceiling folds and door openings.
Intended use:
- External corners of plasterboard walls: Protects the plasterboard edges of door openings, window reveals and other projecting corners of the room from knocks when the metal-reinforced corner tape is embedded tightly in the filler.
- Challenging internal corners: For shaping internal corners of ceiling structures, sloping ceilings, loft spaces or other asymmetrical internal corners, where the foldable construction of the tape adapts to unusual angles.
- Boxing-in and beams: For straightening and mechanically reinforcing the corners of pipe boxing, air duct covers and various boxed-in beams running through the room.
Package contents:
- 1 x Painter corner tape white 50 mm / 30 m metal-reinforced roll
Features:
- Metal-reinforced construction: Two longitudinal metal strips give the fold strength, absorb knocks and keep the corner in a straight line during installation.
- Adaptable fold angle: The construction allows the tape to be folded to any angle, so the tool suits acute and obtuse corner solutions as well as 90-degree corners.
- Porous surface material: The paper or fibre surface bonds effectively with jointing filler, ensuring firm adhesion without a separate adhesive surface.
- Generous roll size: The 30 metre roll reduces the need to change material and allows long, continuous corner lines without breaks.
Technical specifications:
- Tape width: 50 mm
- Roll length: 30 m
- Tape colour: White
- Reinforcement material: Metal
- Installation method: Fixed with filler (no adhesive backing)
- Suitability: Internal and external corners, plasterboard surfaces
Painter corner tape TAS0612 instructions for use:
First measure the length of the corner to be reinforced. Cut the metal-reinforced corner tape to the right length using tin snips or strong cutters; do not use an ordinary utility knife to cut metal. Fold the tape lengthways with your fingers to the required installation angle (for example 90 degrees) so that the metal strips are on the inside or outside of the corner, as needed.
Apply an even, sufficiently thick layer of plasterboard jointing filler to both sides of the plasterboard corner to be reinforced. Press the folded corner tape into the wet filler so that the fold in the centre of the tape sits exactly on the sharpest edge of the corner. Smooth the tape carefully from both edges with a steel trowel, so that excess filler is squeezed out from under the tape and the tape sticks tightly against the board. Make sure no air bubbles are left under the tape.
Let the first fixing coat dry completely according to the filler manufacturer’s instructions. After drying, apply a second, wider coat of finishing filler over the tape and feather the filler edge into the surrounding wall surface. When the second coat is dry, sand the surface lightly and repeat the filling if necessary until the corner is completely smooth and seamless before painting or wallpapering.
Warnings:
The metal strips inside the tape can form sharp edges when the tape is cut. Handle the cut ends with care and wear protective gloves if necessary to prevent cuts. Wear suitable respiratory protection and safety glasses when exposed to filler dust during sanding.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Can this corner tape be used for corners other than 90 degrees?
Yes. The metal-reinforced corner tape is designed to be folded, and it easily adapts to any required angle, such as the obtuse or acute corners of sloping ceilings.
Which tool is best for cutting the tape?
Because of the metal core, tin snips, power shears or sharp side cutters are recommended for cutting. The blade of an ordinary craft knife or utility knife blunts or can break when cutting metal.
Does the corner tape have a self-adhesive surface?
No. This tape model is installed and fixed by embedding it directly in wet plasterboard jointing filler, which guarantees permanent adhesion as the surface dries.
Recycling instructions:
Unused pieces of corner tape alone should be sorted into metal collection because of the metal reinforcement in the tape. Waste pieces covered in filler are disposed of as construction waste or mixed waste according to local instructions. Sort the retail packaging of the product (wrapping or box) into cardboard or plastic collection according to the material.
