Description
Procat adjustable wrench with rubber handle is an adjustable spanner whose jaw gap is set steplessly with a worm screw. The body is chrome vanadium steel (Cr-V) and the handle has a rubber coating. The sizes are 6″, 8″, 10″ and 12″.
The adjustable wrench has a fixed jaw and a moving jaw. The worm screw moves the moving jaw, so the same wrench grips several nut sizes without a set of spanners. Its adjustability makes the wrench a general-purpose tool for jobs where nut sizes vary or the size is not known in advance.
The size in inches of the wrench gives the overall length of the body, and it determines both the maximum jaw opening and the available leverage. A longer body gives more torque with the same hand force: 6″ suits small joints and tight spots, 12″ large nuts and pipe joints.
Cr-V steel is a tool steel used in hand tool bodies for its toughness: it withstands torsional load without breaking. The rubber-coated handle keeps its grip when your hands are oily or wet and cushions the wrench pressing into your palm when tightening.
Intended use and suitability:
The adjustable wrench tightens and loosens hex nuts and bolts whose size varies or for which you have no suitable open-end spanner with you.
- Plumbing: loosening union nuts and threaded joints when sizes vary from job to job.
- Machine and equipment installation: tightening bolted joints on site where the full set of spanners is not with you.
- Maintenance and repair: loosening nuts of unknown size or worn nuts.
- Tight spots: 6″ and 8″ wrenches fit places where a long body cannot turn.
- Large joints: 10″ and 12″ wrenches give a longer lever arm for tight nuts.
Package contents:
- 1 x adjustable wrench in the selected size (6″, 8″, 10″ or 12″)
Features:
- Stepless adjustment: the worm screw sets the jaw gap, so the same wrench covers several nut sizes.
- Cr-V steel body: tough tool steel withstands torsional load without breaking.
- Rubber-coated handle: a secure grip with oily or wet hands, and it cushions the pressure on the palm.
- Four sizes: 6″, 8″, 10″ and 12″ cover small joints and large nuts.
- Single tool: replaces several open-end spanners on jobs where nut sizes vary.

Procat adjustable wrench with rubber handle instructions for use:
Adjustment: Place the wrench over the nut and turn the worm screw until the jaws sit tightly against the flats of the nut. A loose jaw rounds off the corners of the nut. Check the adjustment again for each nut; the jaw loosens in use.
Turning: Position the wrench so that the force is applied to the fixed jaw. The moving jaw is the weaker part of the design: used the wrong way round, the load goes onto the worm screw and the jaw guide, which wear and develop play. Pull the wrench towards you instead of pushing it, and support it with your other hand.
Using the lever arm: Hold the end of the handle so that you use the full lever arm. Do not extend the handle with a pipe: the body bends and the jaw develops permanent play.
Maintenance: Wipe the wrench after use and remove dirt from the teeth of the worm screw. Lightly oil the worm screw and the guide of the moving jaw so that the adjustment stays smooth. Store in a dry place.
Warnings:
- Tighten the jaws firmly before turning. A loose jaw slips, rounds off the corners of the nut and makes your hand hit the structure.
- Apply the force to the fixed jaw; the wrong direction loads the moving jaw and the worm screw.
- Do not extend the handle with a pipe and do not strike the wrench with a hammer.
- Do not use a wrench whose jaw is loose or broken or whose worm screw does not hold its setting.
- The wrench is not an insulated tool; do not use it on live parts.
- Wear safety glasses and protective gloves; a slipping wrench and a nut coming loose injure the hand.
- Do not use the adjustable wrench as a lever, chisel or hammer.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What sizes does the Procat adjustable wrench with rubber handle cover? Four sizes: 6″, 8″, 10″ and 12″.
What does the inch size of the wrench mean? The overall length of the body. It determines both the maximum jaw opening and the length of the lever arm.
Which jaw should the force be applied to? The fixed jaw. The moving jaw and the worm screw wear if the load goes onto them.
What is Cr-V steel? A chrome vanadium alloy tool steel used in hand tool bodies for its toughness and resistance to torsional load.
Why do the corners of the nut get rounded? The jaws have been left loose. Tighten the adjusting screw until the jaws sit tightly against the flats of the nut, and check the adjustment for each nut.
Can the handle be extended with a pipe to loosen a tight nut? No. Extra leverage bends the body and gives the jaw permanent play.
How is the adjusting screw kept running smoothly? By removing dirt from the teeth and lightly oiling the worm screw and the jaw guide after use.
Recycling instructions:
Sort cardboard and plastic packaging into their own collections. Take a discarded adjustable wrench to metal collection or a recycling centre; the rubber coating can be left on the handle. The wrench must not be thrown away with mixed waste. An oily cloth used for maintenance is hazardous waste and goes to a hazardous waste collection point.
