Description
Narex PROFI is a four-piece carving knife set designed to cover the most common woodcarving and engraving needs. The set is part of Narex’s PROFI line, which indicates its suitability for demanding use. This set offers professionals and serious hobbyists a versatile selection of tools for detailed work, shaping and finishing.
The key strength of the set is the variety of its blade profiles. It contains four different knives with blade lengths between 40 mm and 50 mm. The specially shaped blades, including straight and curved profiles with different cutting angles, allow different cuts to be made efficiently, such as straight cuts, curved surfaces, precise angles and small recesses. This makes the set an excellent foundation for many kinds of carving projects.
Each knife in the set has an identical, ergonomically shaped wooden handle. The handle size (105 x 26 mm) is optimised to give a firm, comfortable grip, which is essential in carving work that requires precision. A correctly shaped wooden handle guarantees a good feel for the material being worked and reduces hand strain during long work.
Intended use:
This carving knife set is designed for professional joiners, restorers and wood artists who demand precision and specialised features from their tools. Its uses are wide-ranging:
- Detailed woodcarving: The shorter and curved blade models in the set are excellent for creating small details, decorations, facial features and textures on wooden surfaces. They allow precise removal of shavings even in tight spots.
- Shaping and finishing: The straighter and slightly longer blade profiles are intended for more general shaping (whittling), tidying edges, chamfering and finishing surfaces. They work efficiently when longer, controlled cuts are needed.
- Different carving techniques: The range of knives in the set supports several different carving styles, such as traditional chip carving, small relief carving and free three-dimensional figure carving, offering a suitable blade geometry for each work stage.

Narex PROFI carving knife set instructions for use:
Use: Choose the blade model best suited to the detail being worked. Hold the knife firmly and always cut away from yourself and your free hand, unless you are using a special, controlled pull technique. Use the knife with a slicing movement instead of trying to break the wood by force. Small, controlled shavings give the best and most precise result. Always make sure the workpiece is firmly fixed in place.
Sharpening and maintenance: Carving knives need regular maintenance to work optimally and safely. A blunt blade needs more force, leaves an untidy finish and increases the risk of slipping. Use fine water stones, shaped diamond files or a leather strop (stropping) with honing compound for sharpening and maintenance. Store the knives in a dry place so that their blades cannot touch each other or other metal objects. Clean the blades after use and apply a thin layer of machine oil to prevent rust during storage.
Warnings:
- Sharp tool: The knife blades are extremely sharp and can cause serious cuts. Handle with particular care.
- Cutting direction: Always cut away from your body and hands. Never hold your hand in the path of the blade behind or in front of the workpiece.
- Protective equipment: If needed, wear cut-resistant gloves or a thumb guard on the carving hand for extra safety. Wearing safety glasses is recommended to protect your eyes from wood chips.
- For woodworking only: Do not use the knives to cut metal, plastic or other hard materials, and do not use them as prying tools or chisels.
- Out of reach of children: Store the tools in a safe place out of reach of children.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are the knives ready to use straight out of the pack?
Professional-grade carving knives are usually supplied with a basic edge, but for the best possible cutting result and sharpness, fine-tuning the blades, for example with a leather strop (stropping), is recommended before the first precise use.
Which wood species are these knives suitable for?
The set is suitable for carving most wood species. Hand-held carving knives work best with softer and medium-hard woods, such as lime, birch and alder, which are commonly used in detailed carving.
How do I look after the wooden handles?
The handles can be treated lightly from time to time with linseed oil or another suitable wood protection oil. This keeps the wood in good condition, prevents cracking and improves moisture repellence.
Recycling instructions:
At the end of its life, the product must be disposed of properly. The knife blades are metal and can be recycled in metal collection. Remove the wooden handles before recycling if possible; they can be disposed of as energy waste or mixed waste in line with local waste management regulations.
