Description
Yato cordless heat gun 18V (YT-82285) is a cordless heat gun that, with two settings, produces either 20 °C cooling air or 550 °C hot air at an airflow of 100 l/min . The unit runs on a Yato 18 V Li-Ion battery, so it needs no mains cable. The product is a body-only model: the battery and charger are purchased separately.
The power of the heat gun is 250 W and the rated voltage 18 V DC. Hot air softens old oil and epoxy paint layers and varnishes so that they come off with a spatula or scraper, for example from doors, windows, floors, panels and furniture.
The package includes three metal nozzles: a wide flat nozzle for spreading heat over a larger area, a reducing nozzle for spot heating and a reflector nozzle that directs heat around a curved workpiece. The nozzles are fitted by pressing them onto the end of the cooled outlet nozzle.
The weight of the unit without the battery is 0.7 kg. The protection class is III (extra-low voltage) and the IP rating IP20, so the heat gun is intended for dry conditions: operating temperature +10…+38 °C and relative humidity below 70%. Setting 1 cools the unit with cold air at the end of the work before storage.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless heat gun 18V suits heating work where mains power is not nearby or a cable would get in the way, such as restoring window frames, doors and exterior cladding.
- Paint and varnish removal: Thick oil and epoxy paint layers soften in the 550 °C airflow and come off with a spatula or scraper from wooden surfaces, doors, windows, floors, panels and furniture.
- Drying: Quick drying of binders, body fillers, polyester fillers and paint samples, and drying joints and gaps before applying sealants or insulation materials, for example in boatbuilding.
- Plastic welding and heat treatment: Seaming and heating thermoplastics when the heat is focused with the reducing or reflector nozzle.
- Soldering: Heating soldered joints with a focused hot air flow.
The heat gun belongs to the Yato 18 V battery system. A suitable power source is the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, and for charging the battery, the Yato battery charger 18V 2.2A or a Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger.

Yato cordless heat gun 18V user instructions:
Fitting the battery: Slide a charged Yato 18 V battery into the guides of the battery slot until the latch locks it. Check that the battery does not slide out by itself.
Fitting a nozzle: Fit or remove an additional nozzle only when the battery has been removed and all parts have cooled down. The nozzle is pressed onto the end of the outlet nozzle.
Starting: Switch position 1 starts the heat gun with 20 °C air, position 2 switches to 550 °C hot air. Position 0 switches the unit off.
Paint removal: Direct the airflow at the painted surface from a few centimetres away and move the heat gun evenly. When the paint softens and bubbles, remove it with a spatula or scraper. Do not keep the airflow in the same spot for long.
Cooling and storage: At the end of the work, turn the switch to position 1 and let the unit cool with cold air. Stand the unit on its back panel with the nozzle pointing up so that the heat gun does not suck dirt from the surface. Remove the battery only after cooling.
Maintenance: Remove the battery before maintenance. Clean the housing, ventilation openings and switch with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth without chemicals. Keep the air intake openings clean.
Warnings:
- The outlet nozzle and metal nozzles get hot during use and stay hot while cooling: risk of burns.
- Hot air can ignite flammable materials, including out of sight inside structures. Do not direct the airflow at the same spot for long, and do not leave the unit unattended while switched on.
- Do not use the unit in explosive environments, in a bathroom or near water. Do not expose it to rain (IP20).
- Never point the airflow at people or animals, and do not use the unit as a hair dryer.
- Do not block the air intake openings.
- Children must not use or play with the unit.
- Wear protective gloves and safety glasses. Heating old paint can release harmful fumes; ensure ventilation.
- Use only Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries; do not modify the battery slot or the battery.
