Description
Yato cordless chainsaw 18V, body only (YT-828138) is a cordless chainsaw for cross-cutting wood, limbing and making firewood. The saw has a 12″ (305 mm) guide bar, a 3/8″ (9.525 mm) pitch chain and a chain speed of 6.5 m/s. The body-only version is supplied without a battery and charger, and it runs on Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries.
The chain is lubricated automatically by a pump from a 210 ml oil tank, and the oil level is visible through the inspection window on the housing. The chain is tensioned without tools using the tensioning knob on the side panel, and the bar is locked with the locking knob. The saw uses the 45-drive-link chain AP-12-45-509P with a drive link thickness of 0.050″ (1.27 mm).
User safety is improved by a dual brake, a kickback brake in front of the front handle and a switch lock that prevents accidental starting. The handles have a soft rubber coating, and there is a battery charge level indicator under the rear handle. The saw weighs 3.3 kg without battery, guide bar and chain.
The rated voltage of the saw is 18 V DC, protection class III and IP rating IPX1, and the speed is 3500 min⁻¹. The sound pressure level is 97.0 dB(A) and the sound power level 102.0 dB(A) (guaranteed 105 dB(A)), so hearing protection is essential. As an electric saw, it produces no exhaust fumes, so it can be used under a shelter and near buildings.
Uses and suitability:
The cordless chainsaw is designed only for cutting wood. The 12″ bar is suitable for cutting small trees, branches and thin trunks and for cutting firewood to length on a sawhorse.
- Firewood: Cutting logs and poles on a sawhorse or stand so that the cut piece falls freely and the chain does not jam in the kerf.
- Limbing and branch removal: Cutting thick branches about 15 cm from the trunk in three cuts, so that the bark does not tear.
- Yard and garden clearing: Cutting up fallen trees, storm damage and small trees in the yard, at the cottage and along plot edges without a combustion engine.
- Work near buildings: Battery power allows cutting under a shelter, in a woodshed and next to buildings, because the saw produces no exhaust fumes.
The saw takes Yato 18 V batteries, such as the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, which are charged, for example, with the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. The chain can be sharpened with the Yato cordless chain sharpener 18V, body only , which runs on the same battery. For heavier work, choose the model with a 40 cm bar, Yato cordless chainsaw 16″ 2X18V, body only. The set version YT-828137 includes a 4 Ah battery and a charger.

User instructions for the Yato cordless chainsaw 18V, body only:
Fitting the bar and chain: Remove the battery and wear protective gloves. Remove the side panel locking screw, turn the tensioning knob and remove the panel. Place the chain in the bar groove and on the drive sprocket so that the direction of the links matches the marking on the housing. Refit the panel, adjust the tension with the tensioning knob and tighten the lock. A correctly tensioned chain lifts 3–4 mm from the bar when lifted at the middle; check the tension every 10 minutes of use.
Adding oil: Place the saw horizontally, open the oil tank cap and fill with chain oil up to the maximum mark. Used engine oil must not be used. Start the saw at least 3 metres away from the filling point.
Fitting the battery and starting: Slide the battery into the battery slot at the rear of the housing until the latch locks. Make sure the kickback brake is in the rear position and remove the bar cover. Hold the front handle with your left hand and the rear handle with your right, press the lock button with your thumb and press the trigger. The saw stops when the trigger is released.
Checking lubrication and cutting: Point the running bar towards the ground: oil marks should appear on the ground. Bring the saw to the wood only at full speed and cut with the lower edge of the bar. Do not cut with the upper quarter of the bar tip, do not raise the saw above shoulder height and do not stand in line with the cut.
Maintenance and storage: Remove the battery, clean the housing and ventilation openings, check the chain tension and condition and add oil. Sharpening is best done at a service centre. Empty the oil tank before long-term storage and store the saw in a dry place with the bar cover fitted.
Warnings:
- Kickback: If the bar tip hits an object or the chain jams in the kerf, the saw can be thrown towards the user. Always hold the saw with both hands.
- Wood only: Do not cut plastic, concrete or other building materials; watch out for nails and stones in the wood.
- Not in a tree, on a ladder or on a roof: Work standing on a firm, level surface.
- Personal protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, a safety helmet, protective gloves, safety footwear and close-fitting protective clothing.
- Bystanders: Keep children and bystanders away from the work area; when felling trees, the danger zone and escape routes must be defined in advance.
- Moisture: Do not expose the saw to rain and do not work in rain or fog.
- Battery out during maintenance: Remove the battery before changing the chain, making adjustments, transport and storage.
- Hedges: The chainsaw must not be used for shaping hedges or trimming shrubs.
