Description
Yato hedge shears 18V body (YT-828356) is a handheld 2in1 cutter from the Yato 18V battery system with two interchangeable blade attachments: a 100 mm grass blade for finishing lawn edges and a 200 mm hedge blade for shaping small hedges and ornamental shrubs. The body-only model is supplied without a battery or charger.
The blade speed is 1200 min⁻¹, and the hedge blade can cut branches up to 8 mm thick. The blades are made of hardened SK5carbon steel. The blade attachment is changed without tools by pressing two locking buttons, which releases it from the drive pin on the body.
Without blade attachments and battery, the tool weighs 1.0 kg. The power switch has a lock that is pushed forward with the thumb to prevent accidental starting. The electrical protection class is III and the IP rating IPX1; even so, the shears are not used in rain or on wet grass.
Yato 18V system Li-Ion batteries YT-828461–YT-828465 can be used as the power source, charged with Yato chargers YT-828498–YT-828502. The sound power level is 83.2 dB(A) with the hedge blade and 81.6 dB(A) with the grass blade; the guaranteed sound power level is 87 dB(A).
Uses and suitability:
The Yato hedge shears 18V body is designed for small garden jobs where a lawn mower or hedge trimmer is too large. The battery and charger are purchased separately, for example the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery and Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. For larger hedges, use the Yato cordless hedge trimmer 18V 45 cm, body only , and for tidying larger edges, the Yato cordless trimmer 18V 25-30 cm, body only.
- Lawn edges: the 100 mm grass blade cuts grass next to walls, fences, trees, paving and paths where a lawn mower cannot reach. The manufacturer does not recommend the shears for lawn areas larger than 2 m².
- Ornamental shrubs and small hedges: the 200 mm hedge blade shapes low hedges, box and ornamental plants; the maximum branch thickness is 8 mm.
- Flower beds and planting areas: the light tool suits precise finishing between plants and along kerbstones.
- Small branches and shoots: the hedge blade cuts branches and water shoots up to 8 mm thick.

Yato hedge shears 18V body user manual:
Changing the blade attachment: make sure the switch is not pressed and wear protective gloves. Remove the battery, press both locking buttons, place the blade attachment on the body so that the drive pin on the body goes into the drive gear of the attachment, and release the buttons. The mounting part of the attachment must be flush with the body all the way round. To remove, press both buttons and pull the attachment off.
Fitting the battery: push the Yato 18V battery into the battery slot with the contacts towards the tool until the latch locks. Remove the battery by pressing the latch and sliding the battery out.
Starting: push the switch lock with your thumb towards the front of the tool and press the switch with your index finger; once the switch is pressed, the lock can be released. The tool switches off when the switch is released, but the blades keep moving for a moment.
Cutting grass: guide the shears so that the blade is not between the holding hand and your body, and do not let the blades touch the ground, stones or woody plant parts. Cut grass taller than 15–20 cm in two stages, first the top and then the lower part.
Cutting shrubs: before work, check that the shrub does not contain wires or cables. Do not cut woody branches thicker than 8 mm. If a branch jams, release the switch, remove the battery and carefully remove the branch; if the cause is not easily cleared, remove the blade attachment first.
Maintenance and storage: take regular breaks, as the outer surface temperature must not exceed 60 °C. Clean the blade attachment after use, lubricate the drive parts with gear grease and apply a thin layer of machine oil to the blade before long-term storage. Store the shears in a dry, ventilated place out of the reach of children with the battery removed and charged; during long-term storage, charge the battery every six months.
Warnings:
- Keep hands and feet away from the blades; the blades keep moving after the switch is released.
- Remove the battery before changing the blade attachment, clearing jammed material, cleaning and transport.
- Carry the shears by the handle with the blades stopped and do not keep a finger on the switch.
- Hold only by the insulated gripping surfaces; the blade may hit a hidden cable.
- Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves, safety footwear and long trousers.
- Do not use in rain, on wet grass or in thunderstorms.
- Keep children, bystanders and animals at least 5 metres away; watch out for flying objects.
- Do not use with damaged or missing guards, and do not try to repair a bent blade yourself.
