Description
The Yato carpenter’s pencil is a 150 mm long mechanical marking pencil whose metal tip tube is 40 mm long and narrow. The long tip reaches the bottom of holes, narrow gaps and spaces between structures where the tip of a pencil or marker does not fit.
The pencil works with an automatic feed mechanism: more lead is released by pressing the button at the end of the pencil. The lead diameter is 2.8 mm and the hardness HB, which leaves a clear mark on wood, board, concrete and stone but does not break straight away under pressure.
The end button houses a built-in sharpener. The tip is sharpened on the spot without a separate sharpener, so the line width stays the same throughout the job. The pencil body is made of ABS plastic and metal, and on the side there is a flexible clip for attaching it to a pocket, tool belt or notebook.
In addition to the pencil, the package contains six HB spare leads in their own storage case, and the pencil has one lead ready inside. It is intended for wood and wood-based boards as well as building materials that are marked using a tape measure, square or chalk line.
Uses and suitability:
The pencil is intended for precise measurement marking in construction and woodwork.
- Wood and wood-based boards: cutting lines, drilling depths and joint marks on boards, plywood and chipboard.
- Building materials: marking concrete, brick and stone as well as metal surfaces.
- Tight spots: the 40 mm tip marks at the bottom of a hole, inside a structure and in gaps.
- Precise line: the 2.8 mm HB lead gives a narrow line where a flat carpenter’s pencil is too wide.
Package contents:
- Mechanical marking pencil, 1 pcs (lead ready in the pencil)
- 6 pcs HB spare leads Ø 2.8 mm
- Storage case for spare leads
- Sharpener, built into the end button of the pencil
Features:
- 40 mm metal tip: reaches into holes and tight gaps, protects the lead from snapping.
- Automatic feed: the lead advances from the push button, no separate adjustment.
- Built-in sharpener: in the end button, the tip stays sharp during work.
- ABS body: withstands impacts and site dust.

Yato carpenter’s pencil instructions for use:
Marking: Press the end button until the lead comes out of the tip tube. Hold the pencil at a shallow angle to the surface and draw the line along a tape measure, square or guide. On rough surfaces such as concrete, light pressure is enough; too much pressure breaks the lead at the mouth of the tip tube.
Sharpening: Pull the lead out slightly and sharpen it by turning it in the sharpener in the end button. Return the lead into the tip tube once the tip is sharp.
Changing the lead: When the lead is used up, remove the remaining piece and feed a new HB lead from the case into the pencil mechanism. Use leads with a diameter of 2.8 mm; a thinner lead will not stay in place in the mechanism.
Storage: Clip the pencil to your pocket or tool belt with the tip pointing up, so that the tip does not hit structures. Keep the spare leads in the case so they do not break.
Warnings:
- The metal tip tube is narrow and stiff; do not point the pencil towards the eyes or put it in your pocket with the tip out.
- Do not use the pencil as a lever or piercing tool; the tip tube bends and the lead breaks.
- Small leads: keep the case out of the reach of children because of the risk of swallowing.
- Do not leave the pencil in direct sunlight or heat for a long time; the ABS body can warp.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What does the Yato carpenter’s pencil include? The pencil with a lead ready inside, six HB spare leads in a storage case and a sharpener built into the end button.
What size leads does the pencil use? Diameter 2.8 mm, hardness HB.
Does the pencil write on anything other than wood? Yes. The stated target materials are wood, wood-based boards and building materials, so concrete, brick, stone and metal are also marked with the same lead.
How is the tip sharpened? There is a sharpener in the end button: the lead is pulled out slightly and turned in the sharpener.
What is the 40 mm long tip needed for? For marking at the bottom of a hole, inside a structure and in tight gaps that a short tip cannot reach.
Can coloured leads be used in the pencil? Yes, if the lead diameter is 2.8 mm and the length suits the pencil mechanism.
Recycling instructions:
A pencil that is no longer used is made of ABS plastic and metal. If the parts cannot be separated, take the whole pencil to mixed waste; removable metal parts go to metal collection. Pieces of graphite lead go to mixed waste. The plastic lead case and blister pack are sorted into plastic collection, and the cardboard backing into cardboard. The product contains no electrical parts or batteries.
