Description
Yato cordless pump 18V set (YT-85290) is a cordless transfer pump for pumping water and engine oil without mains power. The package includes a 3.0 Ah Yato 18 V Li-Ion battery and a charger, so the pump is ready to use after charging. The pump’s power is 380 W and its maximum flow 1800 l/h.
The maximum delivery head is 22 m and the maximum suction depth 9 m. The inlet and outlet connections are G3/4threaded hose connectors (19 mm), and the flow direction is marked on the body with an arrow. The temperature of the pumped liquid must not exceed 35 °C, and the pump stops automatically if it starts to run dry.
The unit is intended for transferring clean water and clean engine oil: for example changing engine oil through the dipstick opening, emptying water tanks and pools, and moving water from one container to another. Fuels, brake fluid, gear oil, solvents or dirty water must not be pumped.
The body is IPX4splash-proof and a protection class III safety extra-low voltage device; it weighs 3.25 kg. The battery has an LED charge level display, and the charger charges the 3.0 Ah battery in about 1.5 hours. The same battery fits other Yato 18 V tools, such as the Yato cordless submersible pump 18V 1.5 m, body only model. The body alone without a battery is the Yato water and oil pump 18V 1800 l/h bare tool (YT-85291).
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless pump 18V set is intended for transferring clean water and clean engine oil indoors for household use.
- Changing engine oil: the oil is sucked out through the dipstick opening of a car, boat, motorcycle or small engine without opening the sump plug; also suitable for hydraulic oil when its viscosity is similar to engine oil.
- Emptying water tanks and pools: rain barrels, pools, aquariums and boat bilges are emptied or transferred to another container; the 9 m suction depth is enough for a cellar or well.
- Moving water without mains power: at the cottage, on site and in vehicles with no socket; the 22 m delivery head allows transfer to a higher level.
- Maintenance work: moving coolant or washing water from one container to another in the workshop and machine hall.
The pump is not suitable for pumping drinking water, continuous use (e.g. a fountain), fuels, brake fluid, gear oil, solvents, acids, alkalis, waste water or liquids containing sand or metal particles.

Instructions for using the Yato cordless pump 18V set:
Charging the battery: The battery is supplied uncharged. Put the battery in the charger and plug the charger into a socket; the red LED is lit while charging and the green one when the battery is full. Unplug the charger after charging. To see the battery charge level, press the button on the battery.
Hoses: Push the hoses onto the inlet and outlet connections (flow direction according to the arrow) and secure them with hose clamps without overtightening. The suction hose must be rigid-walled, and a strainer is recommended on its end; keep the end of the hose below the liquid surface, but not in the sludge at the bottom of the tank.
Battery: Make sure the switch is in the O position. Open the battery compartment cover with the latch, push the battery into the guides until it locks, and close the cover.
Pumping: Place the pump horizontally, put the end of the suction hose in the liquid and the outlet hose in the target container. Turn the switch to the I position and supervise the pumping at all times. The pump stops by itself when the liquid runs out, but dry running must be avoided. Stop it with the switch (O). If there is noise, vibration or the flow stops, switch off the pump, remove the battery and find the cause.
Maintenance: Remove the battery. Wipe the body with a damp cloth and clean the ventilation openings with a soft brush or compressed air at max. 0.3 MPa. Drain the hoses. After oil use, pump a few litres of water-based degreaser and then water until clean water comes out of the outlet connection; preferably use separate hoses for oil and water. Store dismantled in a dry place with the battery removed.
Warnings:
- Engine oil and clean water only. Pumping fuels (petrol, diesel, LPG) and other flammable liquids is prohibited: risk of explosion. Not for gear oil, brake fluid, solvents, acids, alkalis, greases or waste water.
- Not for pumping drinking water or for continuous use; liquid temperature max. 35 °C.
- Do not let the pump run dry: overheating can damage the pump and cause a fire or electric shock. Supervise the pumping at all times.
- Indoor use only; do not immerse the pump in liquid or expose it to rain. Not for explosive atmospheres.
- Do not pump water from a pool with people in it. Keep the pump horizontal; do not move it by pulling the hose.
- If a leak occurs, stop the pump immediately and remove the battery. Do not drill holes in or modify the unit; repairs only by an authorised service centre.
- Children aged 8 and over and people with reduced capabilities may use the unit only under supervision. Take used engine oil to hazardous waste collection, not into the drain or the ground.
- Use only Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries and the supplied charger; do not short-circuit or dismantle the battery.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are hoses included with the Yato cordless pump 18V set? No. The pump, a 3.0 Ah battery and a charger are included; 19 mm hoses and hose clamps that fit the G3/4 connections are purchased separately.
Can the pump be used to change a car’s engine oil? Yes. Warm engine oil (max. 35 °C) is sucked out through the dipstick opening with the suction hose; the oil must not contain abrasive metal particles.
Can the pump be used for diesel or petrol? No. Pumping fuels and other flammable liquids is prohibited because of the risk of explosion.
What happens if the liquid runs out during pumping? The dry-run protection stops the pump automatically. Repeated dry running still shortens the pump’s service life.
What is the difference from model YT-85291? YT-85291 is the same pump as a body only, without a battery or charger; YT-85290 includes a 3.0 Ah battery and a charger.
Does the battery fit other Yato 18 V tools? Yes, the battery is a Yato 18 V Li-Ion system battery.
Recycling instructions:
Packaging: cardboard box to cardboard collection, plastic bags to plastic collection.
Device: The Yato cordless pump 18V set is an electrical and electronic device (WEEE) that must not be disposed of as mixed waste. Take a discarded pump and charger to a WEEE collection point or to the retailer; flush out the oil before recycling.
Battery: remove the Li-Ion battery, tape the terminals and take the battery to a battery collection point. Lithium-ion batteries are dangerous goods in transport; a damaged battery must not be sent by post.
