Description
Narex carving chisel set Profi 12 pieces contains twelve hand-finished carving chisels in a wooden storage box. The blades are made of chrome silicon alloy steel (Cr-Si) and hardened to 59 HRc hardness; every blade is ground and sharpened at the factory with honing paste and Arkansas stones, so the set is ready to use straight out of the box.
The set covers the basic carving profiles in several widths: shallow and deep gouges (profiles 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 11), a V-chisel (profile 41) and bent and spoon-shaped chisels for working the bottoms of recesses and hollows. The product numbers in the set are 826230, 826330, 826416, 826430, 826520, 826608, 826704, 826808, 829412, 829504, 829604 and 827312.
The handles are waxed beech: the wax protects the wood from moisture and gives a secure, unlacquered grip. The shape of the handle suits both a palm grip and light mallet use. The wooden storage box keeps the chisels apart and protects the blades in transport.
The set is suitable for relief and decorative carving, sculpting, lettering and hollowing out small cups. A smaller selection from the same range is the Narex carving chisel set Profi 8 pcs in a wall rack, and for ordinary joinery joints the Narex wood chisel set Profi 6-12-16-20-26-32.
Intended use and suitability:
Carving chisels cut thin shavings from the wood surface by hand or with light mallet blows; the curvature of the profile determines the shape of the cut.
- Relief carving: shallow gouges (3, 5) level the background and shape gentle surfaces, deep gouges (8, 9, 11) make grooves and roundings.
- Sculpting and figures: bent and spoon-shaped chisels reach the bottoms of recesses and concave shapes that a straight blade cannot reach.
- Lettering and outlines: the V-chisel (41) cuts sharp lines and the corners of letters.
- Hollowing: deep gouges for cup, bowl and spoon blanks.

Narex carving chisel set Profi 12 pcs instructions for use:
Use: Clamp the workpiece. Guide the blade with one hand close to the edge and push the handle with the other; cut with the grain or at an angle, not against the grain. Use the mallet only lightly and squarely on the end of the handle.
Sharpening: Gouges and the V-chisel are honed on the outside by rolling the blade on a fine stone and on the inside with a slip stone; bent blades are stropped on leather with paste. Restore sharpness often with light stropping instead of grinding.
Maintenance: Wipe and oil the blades after use, and store them in the box with the blades kept apart.
Warnings:
- Very sharp blades: keep the guiding hand behind the blade and cut away from yourself.
- Clamp the workpiece, as a hand-held piece slips.
- Do not use the chisel as a lever; the thin curved blade breaks under sideways load.
- Keep out of the reach of children, with the blades in the box.
