Description
Narex “Wood Line Profi” is a high-end wood chisel designed for professionals and demanding woodworkers who value tradition and style. The key feature of the chisels is their blade material: they are forged from high-alloy Cr-Mn (chrome manganese) steel. This choice of material, combined with careful heat treatment, achieves a high hardness of 59 HRc. The result is a blade that keeps a very sharp cutting edge for a long time even in hard use, reducing the need for sharpening.
The blade of the chisel is ground and sharpened ready for use. The design of the blade pays particular attention to usability in tight spots: the sides are thinned towards the cutting edge, which allows precise work in the corners of dovetail joints, for example, without the back of the blade damaging the surrounding wood.
The handle of the Wood Line Profi chisel is made of stained and waxed beech, giving an ergonomic, comfortable grip. The durability of the handle is ensured in the traditional way: both the base and the end of the handle have steel ferrules/rings. The end ferrule protects the wooden handle from splitting when the chisel is struck with a hammer or mallet, making this range suitable for both delicate paring and chopping that needs force.
Intended use:
The Narex wood chisel Profi range is suitable for versatile woodworking.
- Fine joinery: An excellent choice for joints that call for precision, such as dovetails, finishing mortise and tenon joints and hinge recesses, thanks to the thin side bevels and sharp tip.
- Installation and renovation work: The reinforced handle allows more powerful material removal on site, for example when fitting lock cases or thresholds.
- General woodworking: Suitable for shaping, notching and finishing all types of wood (hardwood and softwood) in the workshop.
Features:
- Forged Cr-Mn steel: High-alloy chrome manganese steel gives an excellent combination of hardness and toughness.
- Hardness 59 HRc: Optimal hardening guarantees that the blade stays sharp for a long time but can still be sharpened by traditional methods.
- Thinned sides: The bevel-edged design makes it easier to reach tight corners and reduces friction in deep cuts.
- Reinforced beech handle: The ergonomic wooden handle with upper and lower steel ferrules withstands mallet blows and gives a traditional feel.
- Fully ground blade: The surfaces of the blade are carefully finished, which reduces friction and makes precise guidance easier.
Technical specifications:
- Blade material: Alloyed Cr-Mn steel (forged)
- Hardness: 59 HRc
- Handle material: Stained and waxed beech (beech wood)
- Reinforcements: Steel ferrule and steel ring
- Blade type: Bevel-edged (bevel edge)
- Standard: DIN 5139 (dimensions and requirements)
Instructions for use and maintenance:
Although the chisel is supplied sharpened, many professionals finish the edge with their own fine honing stones before the first precision job. Use the chisel for cutting either by pushing by hand (paring) or by striking the end of the handle with a suitable tool. The steel-reinforced handle of the Profi range withstands the use of a metal hammer, but a wooden or urethane mallet is preferable to maximise the life of the handle and reduce “mushrooming”. Keep the blade sharp by sharpening it regularly. Store the chisel in a dry place and protect the blade from rust with a thin layer of oil, especially in damp conditions. Use a blade guard during storage.
Warnings:
A wood chisel is a very sharp cutting tool. Handle with care. Never hold your free hand behind the workpiece in the direction the blade is travelling. Make sure the workpiece is firmly clamped in place. Wear safety glasses, especially when striking the chisel with a hammer or mallet, to protect your eyes from any chips or fragments coming off.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is the difference between the Profi range and ordinary chisels?
The Profi range uses high-grade forged Cr-Mn steel hardened to a higher hardness (59 HRc). The handle is also made of selected beech and reinforced at both ends with steel ferrules for added durability.
Can this chisel be struck with a metal hammer?
Yes, the steel ring at the end of the handle is designed to protect the wood from blows, so a metal hammer can be used. Using a wooden or rubber mallet is, however, always gentler on the tool.
Is the chisel ready to use straight away?
The factory promises that the chisel is ground and sharpened. It is ready to use for rough work, but for demanding fine joinery, finishing the edge (honing) on a fine stone is recommended for the best result.
Recycling instructions:
The metal part of the tool is made of high-quality steel and can be recycled through metal collection. The wooden handle is energy waste. If possible, separate the parts before recycling.
