Description
BeaverCraft carving knife set wizard is a beginner’s carving kit with one knife, three lime blanks, a pattern template and an illustrated instruction book in Finnish for carving a three-dimensional wizard figure. Thanks to the step-by-step instruction book, the set also suits carvers with no previous experience of woodcarving. Three blanks mean that the same figure can be carved several times, or individual stages can be practised separately.
The knife in the set is the C2 model, with a blade length of 40 mm and a width of 13 mm. The handle length is 125 mm and the overall length approx. 165 mm. The short blade and rounded tip give controlled cutting in small shapes such as the face, hood and beard.
The blade is 1066 carbon steel and hardened to 57–59 HRC. The bevel is ground to 20 degrees, which gives a thin edge for soft wood; the manufacturer does not recommend the tool for hardwood. The handle is ash and treated with linseed oil, and the design is symmetrical for both right- and left-handed users.
The blanks are lime, which is soft and even-grained and cuts easily even against the grain. Finishing supplies include P1500 sandpaper and, for marking, a pencil; to protect the fingers, the pack includes cut-protection tape. The pack does not include a leather strop or polishing paste, so a separate strop is needed for blade maintenance. The manufacturer’s recommended age is 14 years, and adult supervision is recommended for younger users. BeaverCraft carving knife set wizard requires more three-dimensional visualisation than BeaverCraft carving knife set bird, starter kit; a figure to be painted is carved with the set BeaverCraft carving knife set Dala horse, starter kit and a concave utensil with the set BeaverCraft carving knife set spoon, starter kit.
Intended use and suitability:
The set is intended for woodcarving by hand: carving a three-dimensional figure following the instructions and practising carving techniques with three blanks.
- A first carving project without previous experience: the pattern template and the illustrated instruction book in Finnish guide the carving of the figure step by step, and three blanks give room to practise.
- Figure carving: the face, hood, beard and cloak are carved from one block; the 40 mm blade reaches tight spots without the tip flexing.
- Repetition and practice: three lime blanks allow the same figure to be carved several times or the stages to be practised separately.
- Learning details: the rounded tip is suited to stop cuts and cleaning small surfaces.
- Supervised carving: the manufacturer’s recommended age is 14 years; a younger user needs adult supervision and cut-protection tape on the fingers.
- Other carving projects: the C2 knife is a general-purpose carving knife and stays in use once the set is finished.

BeaverCraft carving knife set wizard instructions for use:
1. Preparation: Set aside a sturdy table and good lighting. Wrap cut-protection tape around your thumb and index finger. Check that the blade is firmly in the handle.
2. Transferring the pattern: Place the pattern template on the side of the blank and draw the outline with the pencil. Mark the centre line and the edges of the hood and beard.
3. Rough shaping: Remove excess wood with short shavings away from yourself. Work from top to bottom and leave the markings visible.
4. Face and details: Carve the nose, eye sockets and beard grooves with stop cuts: first make a bounding cut and then remove a shaving at an angle towards it.
5. Blade maintenance: Strop the blade on leather with polishing paste every few minutes. A dull blade needs more force and slips more easily.
6. Sanding: Finish the surface with P1500 paper only where a smooth surface is wanted; the carving marks can also be left visible.
7. Repetition: Use the second and third blanks to carve the same figure; with repetition the shape becomes more precise and your hand gets faster.
8. Maintenance: Wipe the blade dry after use and oil it lightly; carbon steel rusts in damp conditions. Store the knife in a dry place with the blade protected.
Warnings:
- The knife is very sharp and factory-sharpened. Always cut away from yourself and keep your other hand out of the path of the blade.
- The set is not a toy. Keep out of the reach of children; a child may use the tools only under adult supervision.
- The manufacturer’s recommended age is 14 years; adult supervision is recommended for younger users depending on their experience and motor skills.
- Use cut-protection tape on your fingers; in the thumb push, the thumb presses on the back of the blade, not the edge.
- A dull blade slips more easily than a sharp one, so strop the edge regularly. The pack does not include a strop, so get sharpening equipment separately.
- Do not use the knife as a lever or chisel, or for cutting materials other than wood; the blade can break under sideways load.
- Wood dust can irritate the respiratory tract; sand in a well-ventilated space.
- The finished figure is not a toy for small children: thin parts such as the staff or the tip of the hat can break off.

Recycling instructions:
Sort the cardboard packaging and instruction book into cardboard and paper. Wood shavings and blank offcuts go into wood waste or energy waste. Sort a discarded knife into metal collection and the wooden handle into wood waste; protect the sharp edge before disposal, for example by taping cardboard over it. Used sandpaper and cut-protection tape go into mixed waste.
