Description
The Narex PROFI wood chisel set (Wood Line Profi) is designed to meet the needs of professional joiners and demanding craftspeople. This four-piece set contains a carefully chosen selection of the most commonly needed chisel sizes (8 mm, 10 mm, 16 mm and 32 mm), offering a versatile solution for different woodworking tasks, from precise joints to removing larger amounts of material. The set represents traditional European toolmaking skill combined with modern material requirements.
At the heart of the chisel set are high-quality blades forged from high-alloy Cr-Mn (chrome-manganese) steel. This choice of material and manufacturing method guarantees excellent structural integrity for the blades. The blades are heat-treated and hardened to 59 HRc, which is an optimal balance between extreme sharpness, edge retention and ease of sharpening. The blades are supplied fully ground and sharpened, so they are ready for immediate use.
Comfort and control of the tool are central to the PROFI range. The chisels have ergonomically shaped handles made of hard, durable white beech (hornbeam). The wooden handles are stained and waxed, which gives them a pleasant feel and protection against moisture and dirt. The shape of the handle allows a firm grip both in precise hand work and when using a mallet for heavier material removal. Narex PROFI chisels meet the requirements of the DIN 5139 standard, which reflects their suitability for professional use.
Intended use:
- Fine joinery and furniture making: The smaller sizes in the set (8 mm and 10 mm) are excellent for tasks that require precision, such as finishing dovetail joints, cutting hinge recesses and carving other precise fits. The sharp edge and easily controlled handle allow a clean cut.
- General construction joinery: The medium-sized 16 mm chisel is a multi-purpose general tool for many kinds of installation and fitting work on site. The hardened Cr-Mn steel withstands even more demanding use.
- Removing material and notching: The largest chisel in the set, 32 mm, is an efficient tool when larger amounts of wood need to be removed quickly or wider surfaces and notches levelled. The strong construction allows a mallet to be used to make work more efficient.
- Restoration and renovation: Traditional materials and high manufacturing quality make these chisels reliable partners in restoring old wooden structures and furniture, where both force and delicacy are required.

Wood chisel set instructions for use:
Getting started and handling: Narex PROFI chisels are supplied sharpened. Before use, wipe any protective grease off the blade. Although the chisels are ready to use, many professionals still fine-tune them (honing) to get the best possible cutting feel. Hold the chisel firmly; one hand guides the blade close to the cutting surface and the other hand provides force from the handle.
Working methods: Chisels can be used either by pushing by hand for precise paring and fitting work or by striking with a wooden or urethane mallet when more force is needed, such as when cutting recesses. Avoid using a metal hammer directly on the wooden handle, as it damages the handle over time. Whenever possible, always work along the grain of the wood or diagonally across the grain to get a controlled shaving and avoid tear-out.
Sharpening and maintenance: Using a sharp tool is safer and more precise. Sharpen the chisels regularly with water stones, oil stones or diamond files. Keep the original bevel angle when sharpening. Remove the wire edge from the flat side of the blade with a fine stone at the end of sharpening. Clean the chisels after use and wipe the blades lightly with an oiled cloth to prevent corrosion, especially if the tools are stored in damp rooms. Store the chisels so that their blades do not knock against each other or other metal objects.
Warnings:
Always take care when using sharp hand tools.
- Sharpness: The blades of the chisels are extremely sharp. Handle them with care and avoid touching the cutting edge. Never work so that your hand or body is in the path of the chisel.
- Safety glasses: Always wear safety glasses, especially when using a mallet with the chisel, to protect your eyes from flying wood splinters.
- Clamping the workpiece: Always make sure the workpiece is firmly clamped to a workbench or with clamps. A moving workpiece can cause the tool to slip and create a hazard.
- Correct use: Do not use a wood chisel as a prying tool, crowbar or screwdriver. Misuse can damage the blade or handle and cause an accident.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are the chisels ready to use straight out of the pack?
Yes, Narex PROFI chisels are supplied from the factory ground and sharpened, so they are ready for work. The most demanding users may, however, want to give the blades a final honing before first use.
What material are the handles made of?
The handles are made of white beech (hornbeam), which is known for its hardness and durability. The handles are stained and waxed.
Can these chisels be struck with a hammer?
We recommend using a wooden or urethane mallet with the chisels. Using a metal hammer directly on the wooden handle damages the end of the handle over time and shortens the life of the tool.
What steel is used in the chisels?
The blades are forged, high-alloy Cr-Mn (chrome-manganese) steel, hardened to 59 HRc.
Recycling instructions:
At the end of its life, the product must be recycled properly.
- Blades: The metal blades of the chisels can be recycled in metal collection.
- Handles: The wooden handles can be disposed of as energy waste or wood waste according to local regulations.
- Packaging: Sort the packaging materials (cardboard/paper) into the appropriate carton or paper collection.
