Description
Narex carving knife 29 mm is a knife for wood carving and engraving, with a short, narrow 29 mm blade. The overall length of the knife is 133 mm, so blade and handle make a compact tool for carving details. The model belongs to the Wood Line Standard range from Czech manufacturer Narex.
The blade is forged from high-alloy Mo-V steel (molybdenum-vanadium) and hardened to at least 55 HRC. This hardness keeps the edge sharp when cutting wood fibres, and the blade can be resharpened on ordinary sharpening stones.
The blade is straight and tapers to a sharp-angled point. The narrow point reaches into tight spots, such as the bottoms of decorative grooves, around the eyes and facial features of figures, and into small recesses where a wider whittling knife will not fit.
The handle is made of natural beech with an oiled surface. Its curved shape sits in the palm and supports both a pulling cut and a thumb-push grip. The knife is made at the Narex factory in the Czech Republic.
Intended use and suitability:
The short-bladed Narex carving knife is designed for general wood carving, and especially for detail work at the finishing stage. The short blade gives precise control when the cutting stroke is small and little force is needed.
- Carving figures and characters: Facial features, eyes, fingers, hair and the folds of clothing on small wooden figures are shaped with the narrow point in short, controlled cuts.
- Decorative carving and patterns: Stop cuts along outlines, small notches and triangular cuts are started with the point and finished with the straight part of the blade.
- Finishing spoons, kuksa cups and utensils: Handle decorations, edge chamfers and small details are made with this knife once the bowl has been hollowed with a hook knife, such as Narex hook knife / gouge for spoon carving.
- Adding to a carving set: The knife complements larger whittling and hook knives, for example the set Narex carving knife set 3-piece for spoon making, when the work calls for a shorter and narrower blade.
- Learning wood carving: The short blade keeps the cutting stroke small, which makes it easier to practise carving techniques on soft wood species such as lime, aspen and birch.

How to use the Narex carving knife 29 mm:
Before use: Check that the blade is sharp and undamaged and that the handle is firmly attached. Clamp a small workpiece securely, or hold it so that neither hand is in the path of the blade.
Basic grip: Hold the handle with your whole palm and cut away from your body. Take short, thin shavings with the grain; cutting against the grain easily tears the wood.
Thumb push: For precise details, support the workpiece with your other hand and press lightly on the back of the blade with the thumb of that same hand. The thumb guides the movement. The cutting hand keeps the blade angle steady.
Stop cut: Press the point of the blade straight into the wood along the outline, then cut at an angle towards that cut so that a small piece comes away cleanly.
Sharpening and maintenance: Sharpen the blade on a fine sharpening stone, such as Narex sharpening stone. Keep the original bevel angle and finish on a leather strop. Wipe the blade dry after use and oil it lightly to prevent rust. Treat the beech handle with wood oil when needed.
Storage: Store the knife in a dry place with the blade protected, for example in its original packaging, a blade guard or a tool roll, out of the reach of children.
Warnings:
- Sharp blade: The blade and point are extremely sharp and can cause deep cuts. Always cut away from your body and keep your fingers out of the path of the blade.
- Protection: Wear a cut-resistant glove or a thumb guard on your supporting hand, especially when using the thumb push.
- No prying: Do not use the knife for levering, as a screwdriver or for cutting hard materials such as metal and stone. The hardened point can chip if the blade is twisted sideways.
- Storage and children: Store the knife with the blade protected and out of the reach of children. Children may only use the knife under adult supervision.
- Dull blade: A dull blade needs more force and slips more easily. Keep the blade sharp.
- Heat: Do not heat the blade, as the hardness of heat-treated steel can drop.

Recycling instructions:
Packaging: Separate the materials of the blister pack. The plastic part goes into plastic packaging collection and any cardboard backing into cardboard collection.
Product: Take a Narex carving knife 29 mm that is no longer in use to metal collection, as the blade is made of steel. Protect the blade before taking it to collection, for example by wrapping it in cardboard and taping it, so that waste handlers are not injured.
