Description
Narex wood chisel set Profi 6 pieces contains six bevel-edged wood chisels from the Narex Wood Line Profi range in widths of 6, 12, 16, 20, 26 and 32 mm and a storage rack made of beech. The blades are forged from chrome manganese steel (Cr-Mn) and hardened to 59 HRc hardness, and the chisels meet the wood chisel standard DIN 5139 requirements.
The chisels come pre-ground and sharpened: the flat back and bevel of the blade are ground at the factory, so the chisel is ready to use straight from the rack. The bevel-edged blade gets into tight finger and dovetail joints, and the wide range of blades covers jobs from a thin groove to 32 mm mortising.
The handle is lacquered wood, ergonomic in shape and fitted with a steel compression ferrule on the blade side and a steel ring at the end of the handle. The ferrule stops the handle splitting at the shank of the blade, and the ring allows blows with a wooden mallet without the end of the handle breaking up.
The wooden rack keeps the chisels apart, so the blades do not knock against each other in storage and the right width is quickly to hand. Chisels that have gone blunt in use are sharpened to the right angle with, for example, the Narex honing guide and finished with the Narex sharpening stone; for carving work, use the Narex carving chisel set Profi 8 pcs.
Intended use and suitability:
The bevel-edged wood chisel is a basic joiner’s tool for working joints, grooves and flat surfaces by hand and with a mallet.
- Joinery: cleaning and fitting dovetail, finger and mortise and tenon joints; the bevelled edges reach the sharp corners of the joint.
- Recessing hinges and fittings: 12–26 mm chisels cut the recesses for hinges, lock cases and strike plates in door and furniture work.
- Fine finishing: the 6 mm chisel for small grooves and decorations, the 32 mm chisel for levelling large surfaces and removing glue.
- Construction joinery: the strike-resistant ferrule and ring construction allows mallet use in log and frame work.

Narex wood chisel set Profi instructions for use:
Use: Choose the chisel that matches the width of the joint. Push the blade bevel down when paring thin shavings against a flat surface, and bevel up when cutting out the bottom of a recess. Use a wooden mallet, not a metal hammer; strike the end of the handle protected by the ring.
Sharpening: Grind the bevel to an angle of 25–30° on a sharpening stone or with a honing guide and remove the burr from the back with a flat stone. Never grind the back at an angle. Finish on a fine stone or with honing paste.
Maintenance: Wipe the blades dry after use and oil them lightly to prevent rust. Store the chisels in the rack with the blades apart.
Warnings:
- Sharp blade: keep both hands behind the blade and always push away from yourself.
- Do not use the chisel as a lever, screwdriver or paint tin opener, as the blade can break.
- Strike only with a wooden mallet; a metal hammer damages the handle.
- Keep out of the reach of children, with the blades protected.
