Description
Irwin handsaw 990 Plus is designed for various wood sawing jobs that call for a fine cut. The 22-inch, or 550 millimetre, blade gives a long stroke, which makes work more efficient when handling materials of different sizes. The fine 9T/10P teeth are optimised especially for sawing tasks that demand precision.
The blade of the saw is made of C75 steel. This material keeps the blade in shape and transfers the applied force directly into the cutting movement. The patented tooth technology of the blade makes cutting more efficient and allows up to 25% faster progress. 9T/10P teeth mean that there are nine teeth and ten points per inch.
The saw has a ProTouch handle with an elastomer coating. The coating gives friction and support for the hand while sawing. The handle is sized so that it can also be used with gloves on. A finger rest shaped into the handle helps guide the blade accurately along the cutting line throughout the stroke.
90-degree and 45-degree angles are built into the handle of the handsaw. With these angles, you can mark cutting lines on the material directly with the saw, without separate tools. The saw is balanced so that its centre of gravity supports an even, controlled sawing movement in every stroke.
Intended use:
- Woodworking: Suitable for sawing various wood materials, such as mouldings, panels and boards. The fine teeth leave an even edge without tearing the wood fibres too much.
- Board materials: Can be used for cutting wood-based building boards. The stiffness of the blade and the shape of the handle keep the cut straight even on longer strokes.

Irwin handsaw 990 Plus 22″ 9T/10P instructions for use:
Choose the material to be sawn and mark the cutting line. You can use the 90-degree or 45-degree angles on the handle to help draw straight lines. Place the saw blade against the material at the point you want and make the first stroke lightly towards you to make a small guide groove. Then saw with even strokes using the full length of the blade so that the cut progresses evenly. Store the handsaw in a dry place with the blade guard on to prevent rust and protect the teeth in storage.
Warnings:
- The sharp teeth can cause cuts, so always handle the saw with care and wear protective gloves if needed.
- Wear safety glasses to keep sawdust out of your eyes while working.
- Keep your free hand and fingers far enough from the cutting line while sawing.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Can the blade be sharpened?
The patented hardened teeth of the saw are designed to keep their shape and are not sharpened with conventional files.
Is this Irwin handsaw suitable for damp wood?
The fine 9T/10P teeth are best for dry wood. For damp or very thick wood, a fine-toothed saw can be harder work, and a coarser-toothed model is often recommended for such jobs.
Recycling instructions:
A saw blade taken out of use is sorted into metal collection. The handle is sorted as mixed waste according to local waste regulations. Any cardboard and plastic packaging of the product is sorted into its own separate recycling bins.
