Description
Yato cordless hedge trimmer 2x18V (YT-828353) is a hedge trimmer with a brushless motor that is powered by two Yato 18V batteries. The batteries are connected in series in the machine, giving an operating voltage of 36 V DC. The body-only model is supplied without batteries or charger.
The blade has a cutting length of 550 mm (22″) and a maximum cutting diameter of 28 mm. The blades move at a cutting speed of 1550 min⁻¹ , so fresh shoots and branches up to 28 mm thick are cut in one stroke. The blade is laser-cut, and the blade clearance is 0.2–0.4 mm.
The rear handle turns to positions 0°, ±45° and ±90° and locks in the position marked on the scale. This lets you choose the cutting plane to suit the work, for the top of the hedge or a vertical side. The handles have a soft rubber coating, and there is a hanger at the end of the machine for storage.
The LED charge level indicator shows the approximate charge of the batteries with green, orange and red lights. With two 4 Ah batteries, the manufacturer states an operating time of about 1 hour. Without batteries the machine weighs 2.8 kg, and its electrical protection class is III. The cordless trimmer is quieter than a petrol one and can be used near buildings without an extension cable.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless hedge trimmer 2x18V is designed for trimming and shaping hedges and shrub crowns and for cutting thin branches. The machine needs two Yato 18V system batteries, for example the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, and a charger, such as the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. For lighter work, a single-battery alternative is the Yato cordless hedge trimmer 18V 45 cm, body only.
- Cutting hedges: the 550 mm blade cuts a wide strip at a time. A taut string along the cutting line helps achieve an even height.
- Sides of hedges: vertical surfaces are cut with a curved movement from bottom to top and top to bottom, so both sides of the blade are used.
- Shaping shrubs: the ±45° and ±90° positions of the rear handle make it easier to cut sides and curved shapes without twisting the wrist.
- Shoots and branches: fresh shoots and branches up to 28 mm thick.
- Gardens and around buildings: battery operation is quieter than a petrol trimmer, and no mains power is needed.
Package contents:

Yato cordless hedge trimmer 2x18V user manual:
Preparation: always remove the batteries before assembly and adjustments. Slide the guard plate into the guides on the body and fix it with screws. Pull off the blade cover and check that the blades are not damaged. Mark a safety zone around the work area and also check the other side of the hedge.
Adjusting the rear handle: press the angle adjustment button on the rear handle, turn the handle to the right or left and release the button. The handle locks in the nearest position marked on the scale; make sure it does not move before starting work.
Batteries: push both batteries into the battery slots until the latch locks. Use batteries of the same capacity, equally charged and equally worn; an empty and a new battery should not be used together. Remove a battery by pressing the latch and pulling.
Starting and stopping: switch on the machine with the power button, and the charge level indicator lights up. Grip the front handle with one hand and press the power switch lock, grip the rear handle with the other hand and press the power switch. Keep both pressed throughout the work. The machine stops when the power switch is released; remove the batteries once the blades have stopped.
Cutting: cut at full speed with wide movements and tilt the blade 5–10° in the cutting direction. Do not let the machine run at low speed. If the blade jams, switch off the machine, remove the batteries and wait for the parts to cool before clearing the blockage.
Maintenance and storage: clean the blades with a brush after every use and protect them with lubricant spray. Check the ventilation openings and tighten loose screws. Dull or damaged blades are sharpened or replaced by an authorised service centre. Store the machine in a dry, enclosed space with the batteries removed and the blade cover in place.
Warnings:
- Keep all parts of the body away from the blade. The blades keep moving for a moment after the switch is released.
- Remove the batteries before adjustments, clearing jammed material, maintenance, transport and storage.
- Hold the machine only by its insulated handles; the hedge may contain hidden electrical cables.
- Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves.
- Do not use the machine in rain or thunderstorms, and do not expose it to moisture.
- The gearbox housing gets hot during use; do not touch it.
- Use only compatible Yato 18V Li-Ion batteries; the battery slot or battery must not be modified.
- Keep children and bystanders away from the work area.

Recycling instructions:
Sort the cardboard packaging for cardboard recycling and plastics for plastic recycling. At the end of its life, the Yato cordless hedge trimmer 2x18V is an electrical appliance (EEE): take it to a collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) or to the retailer, not to mixed waste. Recycle Li-Ion batteries separately at a battery collection point with their terminals taped.
