Description
Yato cordless reciprocating saw 18V 25.4 mm is a cordless reciprocating saw for cutting wood, wood-based boards, plastics and metal with a blade chosen to suit the material. The saw runs on Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries, and this body-only version is supplied without a battery or charger. The cutting depth is 120 mm in wood and 6 mm in metal.
The blade stroke length is 25.4 mm and the stroke rate is adjusted steplessly between 0–2900 strokes/min depending on how far the trigger is pressed. The blade holder is a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) universal fittingthat takes the most common reciprocating saw blades; the blade can be fitted with the teeth facing up or down, and it is changed without tools by turning the clamp.
The saw weighs 1.6 kg. The shoe height is adjusted in steps with the lever at the front of the body and the angle steplessly, so the cutting angle can be changed without lifting the shoe off the workpiece. The trigger lock prevents accidental starting.
The operating voltage is 18 V DC, the protection class is III and the IP rating IPX0, so the saw is intended for dry conditions. The sound power level is 96.0 ± 5.0 dB(A) and the vibration 11.63 ± 1.5 / 9.59 ± 1.5 m/s² (board / beam), so hearing protection and protective gloves are necessary. The saw has no work light.
Uses and suitability:
The reciprocating saw is designed for cutting, demolition and contour sawing in places where a circular saw or mitre saw does not fit.
- Demolition and renovation: Demolishing timber structures, cutting roof beams, studs and battens up to 120 mm thick, and plunge cutting into softwood and plasterboard.
- Metalwork and installations: Cutting steel and aluminium pipes, profiles and thin sheet metal up to 6 mm thick with a metal blade; thin sheet is cut between two pieces of wood.
- Plumbing, HVAC and electrical installations: Cutting pipes right next to a wall or floor with a flexible blade and cutting openings from a pre-drilled hole with a blade designed for curved cuts.
- Yard and garden: Cutting thick branches and small trunks with a wood blade, for example when clearing or preparing firewood.
The saw takes Yato 18 V batteries, such as the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, which are charged, for example, with the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. The same system also includes the Yato cordless reciprocating saw set 18V 4.0 Ah Li-Ion battery. The Yato cordless reciprocating saw 18V 25.4 mm is a body for users who already have a Yato 18 V battery; the version with a 2 Ah battery and charger is model YT-828153.
Package contents:
- Yato cordless reciprocating saw 18 V (body only, without battery and charger)
- Instruction manual
Features:
- Tool-free blade change: The rotating spindle clamp locks the blade; the clamp holds universal blades with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) shank.
- Variable speed control: 0–2900 strokes/min with the trigger; start wood cuts slowly and increase the speed as the cut progresses.
- Adjustable shoe: Height in steps with the lever at the front of the body, angle steplessly against the shoe guide.
- Blade fitting in two directions: Teeth up or down; a reversed blade makes it easier to cut next to a wall or floor.
- Trigger lock: The switch starts only when the lock is moved; the lock does not need to be held during cutting.
- Yato 18 V system: Compatible with Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries YT-828461–YT-828465 and chargers YT-828498–YT-828504.

Yato cordless reciprocating saw 18V 25.4 mm user manual:
Fitting the battery: Slide the battery into the battery slot contacts first until the latch locks. Remove the battery by pressing the latch and sliding the battery out.
Fitting the blade: Remove the battery and wear protective gloves. Turn the spindle clamp, push the blade shank into the spindle slot and release the clamp; make sure the blade cannot be pulled out. Use a coarse-toothed blade for wood and a fine-toothed blade for metal and plastic.
Adjusting the shoe: Turn the front lever clockwise, set the shoe to the desired height and turn the lever anticlockwise to lock it. The whole surface of the shoe must rest against the workpiece.
Cutting: Secure the workpiece with clamps and support it on both sides of the cutting line. Place the shoe against the workpiece, move the trigger lock and press the trigger, let the blade reach speed and cut with light pressure. Plunge cut only into softwood or plasterboard with a short blade at full speed. Cut thin sheet metal between two pieces of wood, and use coolant or a thin film of oil on metal.
Maintenance: Remove the battery before maintenance. Clean the housing and ventilation openings with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth without chemicals. Store the battery at 0–30 °C at about 70% charge and charge it at least once a year.
Warnings:
- Read the user manual before use. Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves.
- Always remove the battery before changing the blade, making adjustments and maintenance.
- Hold the saw by its insulated gripping surfaces: the blade may hit hidden electrical wiring.
- Do not hold the workpiece in your hand or against your body; secure it with clamps to a stable base.
- Do not cut around a wall; risk of kickback. Plunge cutting into metal and hard materials is prohibited.
- The blade keeps moving for a moment after switching off. Do not overload the saw; the outer surface temperature must not exceed 60 °C.
- Charge the battery only with a Yato 18 V charger in a dry place. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals or use a damaged battery.
- Not for use by children. IP rating IPX0: not for use in rain or damp rooms.

Recycling instructions:
Recycle the cardboard packaging and paper user manual as cardboard and paper. The Yato cordless reciprocating saw 18V 25.4 mm is an electrical appliance: at the end of its life, take the saw to a collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), not to mixed waste. Return Li-Ion batteries used with the saw to a battery collection point or to the retailer; tape the battery terminals before transport and do not transport a damaged battery.
