Description
Yato cordless nibbler 18V, body only (YT-82399) is a cordless sheet metal nibbler for straight and curved cutting of steel and aluminium sheets. The body-only model is supplied without a battery and charger, and it uses slide-on batteries of the Yato 18V system.
Cutting is done with two blades: the moving blade strikes inside the cutting head 1600 times per minute against the fixed blade and nibbles a narrow strip out of the material. The maximum cutting thickness is 1.6 mm for iron sheet, 1.2 mm for steel sheet and 2.5 mm for aluminium. Mechanical cutting does not heat the sheet, so the galvanised surface does not melt at the cut.
The cutting head can be turned to any position and locked in four positions at 90° intervals, which makes straight and sideways cutting easier. The nibbler is also suitable for profiled and corrugated sheet when the cutting head is held perpendicular to the surface. The blades are replaced in pairs.
The switch has a safety lock against accidental starting, and it cannot be locked on. The sound pressure level stated by the manufacturer is 88.0 ± 3.0 dB(A), the sound power level 96.0 ± 3.0 dB(A) and the vibration level 6.77 ± 1.5 m/s². The insulation class is III and its IP rating is IPX0.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless nibbler 18V, body only, is designed for cutting thin sheet in roofing installations, ventilation duct work and sheet metal work. A suitable battery and charger are the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery and Yato battery charger 18V 2.2A. For cutting thicker profiles, use the Yato cordless angle grinder 18V 125 mm, body only and for shaped cuts in other materials, the Yato cordless jigsaw 18V, body only.
- Metal roofs and tile-effect sheet: Profiled and corrugated roofing sheet is cut with the cutting head perpendicular to the surface.
- Gutters, window flashings and trims: Straight and curved cuts in galvanised and painted sheet without sparks.
- Ventilation ducts: Fitting duct sheets and making openings; a hole is started from a pre-drilled hole large enough for the cutting head.
- Vehicle and machine sheet metal parts: Repair patches and housing panels from iron sheet up to 1.6 mm or aluminium up to 2.5 mm.
Package contents:
- Cordless nibbler 18 V (body only)
Battery and charger are not included.

User instructions for the Yato cordless nibbler 18V, body only:
Read the original user manual before use. Always make adjustments and change blades with the battery removed.
- Battery: Charge the Yato 18V battery with the charger intended for it before use.
- Cutting head position: Loosen the fixing nut, pull the cutting head downwards, turn it to the required position and tighten the nut.
- Preparation: Mark the cutting line and clamp the sheet firmly. Support large sheets close to the cutting line. Apply light machine oil along the line.
- Test run: Hold the nibbler with both hands, move the switch lock back and start. Let it run for about 30 seconds and listen for unusual noises.
- Cutting: Bring the cutting head running at full speed to the edge of the sheet and guide the nibbler along the line with light pressure. Keep the cutting head perpendicular to the sheet.
- Holes: Drill a starting hole large enough for the cutting head and cut along the edge of the hole.
- Changing the blades: Remove the cutting head, replace the moving and fixed blades as a pair, lubricate them with light machine oil and test run for about 30 seconds.
- Maintenance: Remove the battery, clean the housing and ventilation openings with a dry cloth, a brush or compressed air at max. 0.3 MPa.
Warnings:
- Protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves, safety footwear and protective clothing.
- Sharp edges: The cutting edges and cut sheets are sharp.
- Workpiece clamping: Clamp the sheet; do not hold it in your hand or against your body.
- Hidden wiring: Hold the tool by the insulated gripping surfaces if the blade may contact live wires.
- Noise: Thin, large sheets can increase noise by up to 15 dB; wear hearing protection and use sound-insulating mats if necessary.
- Run-on: The blade may keep moving for a moment after the switch is released; put the tool down only once the blade has stopped.
- Batteries: Use only Yato 18V system batteries and chargers; do not short-circuit the battery terminals and do not use a damaged battery.
- Moisture: IP rating IPX0, not for use in rain.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are a battery and charger included with the Yato cordless nibbler 18V body-only model?
No. A Yato 18V system battery and charger are purchased separately for the body-only model; the same nibbler is also available as a set with a 4 Ah battery and charger (YT-82398).
How thick a sheet can the nibbler cut?
Up to 1.6 mm iron sheet, 1.2 mm steel sheet and 2.5 mm aluminium.
Can the nibbler cut profiled roofing sheet?
Yes. Corrugated and trapezoidal sheet is cut so that the cutting head stays perpendicular to the surface being cut.
How do you cut a hole in the middle of a sheet with the nibbler?
First drill a starting hole in the sheet that the cutting head fits through, then cut along the edge of the hole.
When should the blades be replaced?
When cutting performance drops or the blades show cracks, chips or deformation. The moving and fixed blades are always replaced in pairs.
Recycling instructions:
The Yato cordless nibbler 18V, body only, is electrical and electronic equipment (crossed-out wheeled bin symbol). At the end of its life, take the device to WEEE collection, not to mixed waste. Return Li-ion batteries separately to a battery collection point with the terminals protected; a damaged battery must not be transported normally. Worn blades and sheet metal scraps belong in metal collection, and the cardboard packaging in cardboard collection.
