Description
Yato cordless ratchet 18V 4 Ah set (YT-828030) includes an impact angle ratchet with a brushless motor, a a 4 Ah Li-Ion battery and a charger. The maximum torque of the ratchet is 160 Nm, and its angle head takes 1/4″ (6.3 mm) hex bits. The tool belongs to the Yato 18 V battery system, whose batteries fit the other tools in the range.
The narrow angle head and short body are designed for places where a straight impact wrench or a hand ratchet does not fit, such as the engine bay, between machine frames and behind furniture. The supplied adapter 1/4″ hex → 1/2″ square converts the bit holder into a socket driver, so 1/2″ impact sockets can also be used with the ratchet.
The speed is selected from three ranges 0–1100 / 0–1450 / 0–1750 min⁻¹, and the impact rate is correspondingly 0–1500 / 0–2100 / 0–2600 min⁻¹. The control panel has four operating modes: three speed and impact levels and a tightening mode, which stops the ratchet at the target torque when turning clockwise and loosens the joint at full power when turning anticlockwise, then slows down automatically.
The impact mechanism loosens tightly seized screws and nuts without damaging the fasteners. The tool weighs 1.25 kg, with insulation class III and an operating temperature of −10…+40 °C. The sound pressure level is 98 dB(A) and the vibration 19 m/s², so hearing protection and breaks are necessary. The charger charges the battery in about 2 hours.
Uses and suitability:
The cordless ratchet is designed for loosening and tightening nuts, screws and bolts in tight spots with 1/4″ hex bits or, via the adapter, with 1/2″ sockets. The impact function produces more torque than an ordinary power ratchet without the tool twisting your hand.
- Vehicle and machine maintenance: Loosening and tightening fixings in the engine bay, chassis and accessories when there is no room for a straight wrench; with the 1/2″ adapter, bolts that need a socket are also possible.
- Machine and equipment installation: Handling fixing screws and bolts between equipment frames, guard plates and enclosures, where the angle head fits square to the fastener.
- Plumbing, HVAC and building services: Screw joints of brackets, pipe clamps and ducts close to walls and ceiling structures.
- Furniture and fitted furniture installation: Loosening and tightening fixing screws inside cabinets and behind furniture, where an ordinary screwdriver does not fit square.
The same Yato 18 V battery system includes, among others, the Yato cordless impact wrench 18V 850Nm, body only, Yato 18V Li-Ion battery and Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. For manual final tightening, use the Yato ratchet 1/2″ 255 mm offset. The Yato cordless ratchet 18V 4 Ah set is ready to use without buying a battery separately; the body alone is model YT-828031.

Yato cordless ratchet 18V 4 Ah user manual:
Charging: The battery is supplied uncharged. Insert the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a socket; the indicator light shows the charging status. Charging takes about 2 hours. Unplug the charger and release the battery from the charger by pressing the latch button.
Fitting a bit or adapter: Remove the battery. Push a 1/4″ impact bit or the hex shank of the socket adapter into the bit holder until it locks, and fit a 1/2″ impact socket to the square of the adapter if needed. Check the fitting before starting.
Use: Select the direction of rotation and the operating mode on the control panel. For threaded joints, make the first turns by hand. Place the bit or socket on the fastener before pressing the trigger, hold the ratchet with both hands and start at low speed. When the impact mechanism starts hammering, the torque has been reached; release the trigger. Check the final tightening torque with a torque wrench.
Loosening: Set the direction of rotation to anticlockwise. In tightening mode, the ratchet loosens the joint at full speed and impact rate and slows down automatically once the fastener has come loose.
Maintenance and storage: Remove the battery before cleaning. Clean the body and ventilation openings with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth. Store the battery at 0–30 °C at about 70% charge and charge it at least once a year.
Warnings:
- Read the user manual before use. Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves.
- Remove the battery before changing the bit, adapter or socket and before maintenance.
- Hold the ratchet by its insulated gripping surfaces if the bit may hit hidden electrical wiring.
- Use only bits and sockets designed for impact use; do not use cracked or worn parts. The adapter must not be used as a hand lever.
- Stop tightening when the impact mechanism starts hammering; continued tightening can break the fastener or the thread.
- The outer surface temperature must not exceed 60 °C. Take breaks because of vibration exposure.
- Charge the battery only with a Yato 18 V charger in an enclosed, dry space under adult supervision. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals or use a damaged battery. Heat above 130 °C can cause the battery to explode.
- Not for use by children. Not for use in rain or damp conditions.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Which bits does the Yato cordless ratchet 18V 4 Ah set use? 1/4″ (6.3 mm) hex impact bits. With the supplied adapter, 1/2″ impact sockets can be fitted to the ratchet.
What is the maximum torque of the cordless ratchet? 160 Nm. The torque needed to loosen a joint is usually 75–80% of the tightening torque, so the ratchet can also loosen joints tightened close to its maximum torque.
What does the tightening mode do? Clockwise, the ratchet limits the speed and stops at the target torque; anticlockwise, it loosens at full power and slows down when the fastener comes loose.
Can the ratchet be used instead of a torque wrench? No. The final tightening torque is checked with a torque wrench, because the torque reached depends on the impact time and the condition of the threads.
How long does it take to charge a 4 Ah battery? About 2 hours with the supplied charger.
Does the battery fit other Yato 18 V tools? Yes. Yato 18 V system batteries are mutually compatible; the ratchet body alone is available as model YT-828031.
Recycling instructions:
The cardboard packaging and paper user manual go to cardboard and paper recycling. The ratchet and charger in the Yato cordless ratchet 18V 4 Ah set are electrical appliances: at the end of their life, take them to a collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), not to mixed waste. Return the Li-Ion battery to a battery collection point or to the retailer; protect the battery contacts with tape before transport and do not transport a damaged battery.
