Description
Yato cordless hammer drill 40 Nm 2 Ah set (YT-82786) includes an 18 V hammer drill/driver, a 2 Ah Li-Ion battery and a charger. The maximum torque is 40 Nm, and the tool works in three modes: screwing, drilling and hammer drilling. The battery also fits other tools in the Yato 18 V system.
The mechanically shifted two-speed gearbox gives speeds of 0–440 and 0–1650 min⁻¹. The impact rate of the hammer mechanism is 0–7920 / 0–29,700 min⁻¹, and it is engaged with the hammer symbol on the adjustment ring behind the chuck. The speed is adjusted steplessly by pressing the trigger, and the spindle brake stops the chuck when the trigger is released.
The clamping range of the self-centring chuck is 1.5–13 mm. The maximum drilling diameter is 25 mm in wood, 10 mm in steel and 13 mm in concrete. In screwing mode, the numbered adjustment ring sets the torque at which the overload clutch slips; in the drilling and hammer drilling positions, the clutch does not limit the torque.
The tool weighs 1.3 kg, electrical insulation class III and its IP rating is IP20. The body has an LED work light and a metal belt hook. The charger (220–240 V~, 60 W, output 21 V DC / 2.4 A) charges the 2 Ah battery in about 1 hour, and a button-operated LED indicator on the battery shows the charge level.
Uses and suitability:
The hammer drill/driver is designed for drilling holes in wood, metals and masonry and for driving and removing screws and bolts. Hammer drilling is used for concrete, hard brick and stone, not for wood or plastic.
- Fixings in concrete and brick: Plug holes up to 13 mm with a masonry bit, for example for installing shelves, brackets and curtain rods.
- Woodwork: Holes in wood with bits up to 25 mm and driving screws in first gear.
- Metalwork: Holes in steel with bits up to 10 mm; when drilling steel, the bit is cooled with machine oil.
- Installation and assembly: Assembling furniture and removing screws with anticlockwise rotation at the lowest speed.
The battery in the set also fits other Yato 18 V tools, such as the Yato cordless jigsaw 18V, body only, and a suitable extra battery is the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery. If more torque is needed, an alternative in the same system is the Yato cordless impact drill 18V 75Nm, brushless motor, body only.

Yato cordless hammer drill 40 Nm 2 Ah user instructions:
Charging: The battery is supplied uncharged. Clean the battery terminals with a dry cloth, slide the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a socket. The red LED is on during charging, and green indicates a full battery. Slide the charged battery into the tool until the latch locks.
Gear and torque: Select the lower gear for tightening and loosening screws and the higher gear for drilling. When screwing, set the ring behind the chuck to the lowest number and increase it until the tightening is correct; test on scrap material first. The numbered settings are not used for drilling.
Fitting the bit: Push the drill bit into the chuck and tighten the chuck by hand. Set the ring to the drill symbol (drilling) or the hammer symbol (hammer drilling in concrete). Screwdriver bits are fitted with a bit holder or directly in the chuck.
Drilling: Secure the workpiece with clamps or in a vice and mark the drilling point with a centre punch. For large holes, drill a pilot hole first. In concrete, first drill a small hole without impact and then the actual hole with impact using a carbide masonry bit. Hold the tool with both hands and change the direction of rotation only when the tool has stopped.
Maintenance: Remove the battery and clean the body, ventilation openings and switches with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth without chemicals.
Warnings:
- Read the user manual before use. Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves, especially when hammer drilling.
- Remove the battery before changing the bit, making adjustments, maintenance and storage.
- Hold the drill by its insulated gripping surfaces if the bit may hit hidden electrical wiring.
- Support the tool properly: if the bit jams, the torque can twist the tool.
- Start drilling at low speed with the bit tip against the workpiece; do not exceed the maximum permitted speed of the bit.
- Do not use the tool to power attachments. The temperature of the outer surfaces must not exceed 60 °C.
- Charge the battery only with the supplied charger in a dry place under adult supervision; do not short-circuit the battery terminals. Not for rain or damp rooms (IP20). Not for use by children.
