Description
Yato cordless multi-tool 18V 2 Ah (YT-828390) is a Yato 18V battery system 2in1garden tool whose telescopic shaft takes either a hedge trimmer or a pole saw head. Changing the head requires no tools. The set includes a 2 Ah Li-Ion battery (36 Wh) and a charging station, so the machine is ready to use after charging.
The hedge trimmer blade has a cutting length of 415 mm and a cutting speed of 1500 min⁻¹. The pole saw has an 8″ (200 mm) guide bar and a 3/8″ (9.525 mm) pitch saw chain with a speed of 4.5 m/s and a drive shaft speed of 2500 min⁻¹. The chain is lubricated automatically from an 80 ml oil tank.
The length of the telescopic shaft adjusts steplessly, and according to the manufacturer it gives a working height of about 5.5 m without a ladder. The hedge trimmer head tilts in 15° steps between −45…+90°, the pole saw head between 0…+90° and the rear handle between −15…+30°. The shaft is made of composite and aluminium.
Without the battery, the tool weighs 3.5 kg as a hedge trimmer and 3.4 kg as a pole saw without the guide bar and chain. A carrying strap is included, which transfers most of the weight to the shoulder. The electrical protection class is III. The charging time of the supplied 2 Ah battery is about 1 h; according to the manufacturer, the operating time with a 6 Ah battery (YT-828464) is over 1.5 h.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless multi-tool 18V 2 Ah is intended for shaping hedges and maintaining tree crowns at height, near buildings and in places a mains cable cannot reach. For longer jobs, a suitable spare battery is the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery and for faster charging the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. Garden machines in the same system also include the Yato cordless pruning shears 18V, body only and Yato cordless chainsaw 16″ 2X18V, body only.
- Tall hedges: the 415 mm blade and tilting head shape the top and sides of the hedge from the ground; an even height is achieved with a taut string.
- Pruning trees: the 200 mm guide bar cuts small-diameter branches from the crown without a ladder; a branch is cut about 15 cm from the trunk with three cuts.
- Gardens and around buildings: battery operation is quieter than a petrol machine, and no extension cable is needed.
- Shrubs and thin branches: the hedge trimmer head cuts the tops of shrubs and thin branches; the pole saw is not used for shaping hedges.

Instructions for using the Yato cordless multi-tool 18V 2 Ah:
Charging the battery: the battery is supplied uncharged. Push the battery into the charging station and plug the power supply into a socket: the red indicator light is lit while charging and the green one comes on when the battery is full (about 1 h). Charge only in a dry indoor space. The indicator lights that come on with the battery button show the charge level.
Assembly: always remove the battery before assembly and adjustments. Open the head mounting lock, push the shaft section with the switch into the opening of the head section and tighten the lock. Fit the pole saw guide bar and chain wearing protective gloves: open the side panel locking knob, fit the bar and chain in the correct running direction, fix the panel and adjust the tension with the tensioning knob. When lifted in the middle, the chain should rise only slightly above the bar; check the tension every 10 minutes.
Oil: fill the tank only with saw chain oil, not used engine oil. The oil level must be above the minimum mark; sawing with an empty tank is prohibited. Start the saw at least 3 m from the filling point.
Adjustments: the length is adjusted with the locking lever, the head angle by pressing the two angle adjustment buttons at the same time and the rear handle position with the swivel button. The carrying strap is worn diagonally across the body.
Use: push the battery in until the latch locks. Hold the machine with both hands, push the power switch lock-off button forward and press the switch. Move the hedge trimmer in wide arcs, with the blade tilted 5–10° in the cutting direction. With the pole saw, cut only with the chain running along the underside of the bar, bring the running saw against the branch, and do not use the top quarter of the bar tip.
Maintenance: clean the blades with a brush and protect them with lubricating spray after every use. The blade clearance is 0.2–0.4 mm; blunt blades and chain are sharpened at an authorised service centre. Store the machine in a dry, locked place with the battery removed and the covers in place.
Warnings:
- Keep at least 10 m away from power lines; contact of the blade or chain with a live wire can cause a fatal electric shock.
- Kickback hazard: do not saw with the tip of the guide bar, do not stand in line with the cut and always hold the machine with both hands.
- Wear safety glasses, ear defenders, a helmet, protective gloves, safety footwear and close-fitting protective clothing.
- Do not use the machine in a tree, on a ladder or on an unstable surface, and do not hold the handles above shoulder height.
- Do not use in rain, fog or thunderstorms; do not expose to moisture.
- The blades and chain keep moving for a moment after the switch is released; remove the battery before removing jammed material, maintenance and transport.
- The gearbox housing gets hot during use; do not touch it.
- Charge the battery only with the supplied charging station, do not short-circuit the battery terminals and do not use or transport a damaged battery.
- Cut only wood; watch out for metal parts and stones in the wood. Keep children and bystanders away from the work area.

Recycling instructions:
Sort the cardboard packaging into cardboard collection and the plastic bags into plastic collection. A discarded Yato cordless multi-tool 18V 2 Ah is an electrical device (WEEE): take it to a waste electrical and electronic equipment collection point or the retailer, not to mixed waste. Empty the oil tank before recycling and take the waste oil to hazardous waste collection. Recycle the supplied Li-Ion battery separately at a battery collection point with the terminals taped.
