Description
Yato cordless chainsaw 2x18V, body only (YT-82813) is a 36 V cordless chainsaw for cross-cutting wood, limbing, making firewood and tree felling by experienced users. The saw has a 14″ (355 mm) guide bar, a 3/8″ (9.525 mm) pitch chain and a chain speed of 8.5 m/s. The body-only version is supplied without batteries and charger.
The saw runs on two Yato 18 V batteries, which are connected in series to give a total voltage of 36 V . The saw does not start if one battery is missing or flat. The manufacturer recommends two batteries of the same capacity, equally charged and equally used.
The chain is lubricated automatically from a 170 ml oil tank, whose level is shown by the oil level indicator. The chain tension is adjusted with the tensioning knob on the side panel, and the bar is locked with the locking screw. In front of the front handle there is a kickback brake, and the switch lock prevents accidental starting.
The speed is 4500 min⁻¹ and the protection class is III. The saw weighs 4.84 kg without batteries, guide bar and chain. The sound power level is 92.8 dB(A) (guaranteed 96 dB(A)), so hearing protection is essential.
Uses and suitability:
The cordless chainsaw is designed only for cutting wood. The 14″ bar and 36 V voltage are suitable for cutting thicker logs and trunks than light 18 V saws.
- Firewood: Cutting poles and logs on a sawhorse or stand so that the cut piece falls freely and the chain does not jam in the kerf.
- Limbing: Cutting branches about 15 cm from the trunk in three cuts, so that the bark does not tear.
- Tree felling: The manual allows experienced users to fell trees using the felling notch and felling wedge technique once danger zones and escape routes have been prepared.
- Yard and cottage clearing: Cutting up storm damage and fallen trees without a combustion engine; the saw produces no exhaust fumes, so it can be used near buildings.
The saw requires two Yato 18 V batteries, such as the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, and they can be charged, for example, with the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. For sharpening the chain, use the Yato cordless chain sharpener 18V, body only, and the sister model with a 40 cm bar is the Yato cordless chainsaw 16″ 2X18V, body only. The set version YT-82812 includes two 2 Ah batteries and a charger.

User instructions for the Yato cordless chainsaw 2x18V, body only:
Fitting the bar and chain: Remove both batteries and wear protective gloves. Remove the side panel locking screw, turn the tensioning knob and remove the panel. Place the chain in the bar groove and on the drive sprocket so that the direction of the links matches the marking on the housing. Refit the panel, adjust the tension with the tensioning knob and tighten the locking screw. A correctly tensioned chain lifts 3–4 mm from the bar when lifted at the middle; check the tension every 10 minutes of use.
Adding oil: Place the saw horizontally, open the oil tank cap and fill with chain oil up to the maximum mark. Used engine oil must not be used. Start the saw at least 3 metres away from the filling point.
Fitting the batteries and starting: Slide each battery into its own battery slot until the latch locks. Make sure the kickback brake is in the rear position and remove the bar cover. Hold the front handle with your left hand and the rear handle with your right, press the lock button with your thumb and press the trigger. Check the lubrication by pointing the running bar towards the ground.
Cutting: Bring the saw to the wood only at full speed and cut with the lower edge of the bar. Do not cut with the upper quarter of the bar, do not raise the saw to shoulder height and do not stand in line with the cut. Wood under tension that is supported at both ends is first cut from above to 1/3 depth and finished from below.
Maintenance and storage: Remove the batteries, clean the housing and ventilation openings, check the chain tension and condition and add oil. Sharpening is best done at a service centre. Store the saw in a dry place with the bar cover fitted; the lubrication system may seep a little oil during storage.
Warnings:
- Kickback: If the bar tip hits an object or the chain jams in the kerf, the saw can be thrown towards the user. Always hold the saw with both hands.
- Wood only: Do not cut plastic, concrete or other building materials; watch out for nails and stones in the wood.
- Not in a tree, on a ladder or on a roof: Work standing on a firm, level surface.
- Tree felling: Define the danger zone and escape routes; the next work point at least 2.5 times the tree height away.
- Personal protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, a safety helmet, protective gloves, safety footwear and close-fitting protective clothing.
- Moisture: Do not expose the saw to rain and do not work in rain or fog.
- Batteries out during maintenance: Remove the batteries before changing the chain, making adjustments, transport and storage.
- Hedges: The chainsaw must not be used for shaping hedges or trimming shrubs.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are batteries and a charger included with the Yato cordless chainsaw 2x18V body-only model?
No. The body-only version includes the saw, 14″ guide bar, chain and bar cover. Buy the batteries and charger separately or choose the set version YT-82812.
Why does the saw need two batteries?
The batteries are connected in series and provide 36 V. The saw does not start if one battery is missing or flat.
Can the batteries be different sizes?
The manufacturer recommends batteries of the same capacity, equally charged and equally used; otherwise the runtime is shorter and the batteries wear faster.
Which chain and guide bar fit the saw?
The spare chain is YT-849475 and the spare guide bar YT-84918 (14″, 3/8″, 52 drive links).
How tight should the chain be?
The chain should lift 3–4 mm from the bar when lifted at the middle of the bar. Check the tension every 10 minutes of use.
Recycling instructions:
The Yato cordless chainsaw 2x18V, body only, is electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that must not be disposed of with mixed waste. Take the device to a WEEE collection point at the end of its life. Empty the oil tank before recycling and take the waste oil to hazardous waste collection. Return Li-Ion batteries to a battery collection point; cover the battery terminals with insulating tape. Sort the cardboard packaging into cardboard recycling.
