Cordless chainsaws and pruning saws are 18V battery-powered chainsaws for pruning trees, cutting branches, sawing firewood and looking after garden trees. The group includes chainsaws with 12", 14" and 16" bars, small pruning saws with 4–7" bars, a telescopic pole saw with an 8" bar and a cordless chain sharpener. The saws are used in home gardens, at summer cottages, in property maintenance and in landscaping work. All machines use the Yato 18V battery.

Selection criteria

  • Bar length: a 4–7" pruning saw suits cutting and pruning branches, a 12" chainsaw suits firewood and small trees, and 14" and 16" chainsaws suit thicker trunks.
  • Batteries: the 12" chainsaw and the pruning saws run on one 18V battery, the 14" and 16" chainsaws on two (2x18V).
  • Chain lubrication: on the chainsaws an oil pump lubricates the chain from the tank during use. The small pruning saws have no automatic lubrication, and the chain is oiled by hand.
  • Telescopic pole: with the 8" telescopic pole saw, high branches are cut from the ground without a ladder.
  • Body only or set: a body-only model is supplied without a battery and charger. A set includes a battery and a charger, and the set for a 2x18V saw includes two batteries.

Frequently asked questions about cordless chainsaws and pruning saws

What is the difference between a pruning saw and a chainsaw?
A pruning saw is a light one-handed saw with a short bar for cutting branches. A chainsaw has a longer bar and more power for sawing thick trunks, and it is used with both hands.

When does the saw chain need sharpening?
When the saw produces fine dust instead of chips, or cutting slows down. A blunt chain puts strain on the machine and the battery. With the cordless chain sharpener the chain is sharpened without mains power.
