Description
Yato carpenter’s cordless chainsaw 18V, body only is a lightweight cordless chainsaw with a brushless motor and a 6″ (158.5 mm) bar. The saw is designed for cutting wood: pruning branches, cutting trees and shrubs, and light carpentry and joinery work such as cutting boards, beams and panels. This body-only version is supplied without a battery or charger, and it runs on Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries.
The maximum chain speed is 6.2 m/s and the motor speed 3500 min⁻¹. The half-chisel chain (pitch 0.3″ / 7.62 mm, drive link thickness 1.1 mm, 28 drive links) cuts both across and along the grain. The saw body is articulated: the bar and chain can be turned to two working positions with the joint lock.
The saw comes with a riving knife, a detachable auxiliary handle, a bar cover and a tape measure. The chain is tensioned without tools using the locking knob on the side cover, and a centrifugal brake stops the chain. The saw has no oil tank, so the chain is lubricated by hand with an oil can every 15–20 minutes of use.
The operating voltage is 18 V DC and the protection class is III. The sound power level is 93.1 ± 3 dB(A) (guaranteed 97 dB(A)) and vibration is below 2.5 ± 1.5 m/s², so hearing protection and protective gloves are needed. The saw is not suitable for felling trees, and it must not be used in the rain.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato carpenter’s cordless chainsaw 18V, body only, is a dual-purpose tool: it suits both pruning in the yard and garden and light timber construction work.
- Carpentry and joinery: Cutting boards, battens, beams and panels and fitting timber structures on site; the articulated body makes cutting in tight spaces easier.
- Pruning: Removing branches and water sprouts from fruit and ornamental trees from the ground, no higher than shoulder height.
- Shrub and hedge care: Cutting thick shrub branches and root suckers when a hedge trimmer is not enough.
- Firewood and yard clean-up: Cutting fallen branches and thin logs to length on a sawhorse.
The saw takes Yato 18 V batteries, such as the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, which are charged, for example, with the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. For pruning only, there is also the Yato cordless pruning saw 7″ 18V, body only. The version with a battery and charger is model YT-828115.

User instructions for the Yato carpenter’s cordless chainsaw 18V, body only:
Fitting the bar and chain: Remove the battery and wear protective gloves. Open the locking knob, remove the side cover and fit the bar and chain so that the chain teeth point in the direction of travel marked on the body and the chain sits in the bar groove and on the sprocket teeth. Refit the side cover and tighten the knob lightly.
Tensioning the chain: Tension the chain by turning the locking knob clockwise. When the chain is pulled at the middle of the bar, it should lift 3–4 mm from the bar. Check the tension every 10 minutes.
Lubrication: The saw has no oil tank. Every 15–20 minutes of use, remove the battery, remove the side cover, clean the chain and oil the links with chain oil, for example using an oil can. Do not use used engine oil.
Use: Remove the bar cover. Hold the handle with your right hand and the rubberised part of the body or the auxiliary handle with your left, press the switch lock with your thumb and then the switch. Let the chain reach full speed before bringing it to the wood, and cut with the lower edge of the bar, never with the upper quarter of the bar tip. Cut branches about 15 cm from the trunk in three cuts: from below to 1/3 depth, from above, and finally next to the trunk from above.
Working position: Push the joint lock slider and turn the bar with the chain until the slider locks into the other working position.
Maintenance and storage: Remove the battery. Clean the body with a soft dry cloth, tighten any loose screws and check the condition of the chain; sharpen the chain or have it sharpened at a service centre. Apply a thin layer of oil to the chain and store the saw in a dry place with the bar cover fitted.
Warnings:
- Read the user manual before use. Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves, a respirator and close-fitting clothing.
- Risk of kickback: do not cut with the bar tip, hold the saw with both hands and do not stand in the cutting plane.
- Do not use the saw in a tree, on a ladder, on a roof or above shoulder height. The saw is not suitable for felling trees.
- Cut only wood; not plastic, concrete or other building materials. Watch out for nails and stones in the wood.
- Beware of branches under tension: a released branch can strike the user or throw the saw.
- Always remove the battery before fitting or tensioning the chain, lubricating, removing jammed wood and transporting. Carry the saw switched off with the bar cover fitted.
- Do not use the saw in rain or fog. Charge the battery only with a Yato 18 V charger in a dry place; do not short-circuit the battery terminals.
- Not for use by children. Keep children and bystanders away from the work area.

Recycling instructions:
Recycle the cardboard packaging and paper user manual in cardboard and paper collection. The Yato carpenter’s cordless chainsaw 18V, body only, is an electrical appliance: take the saw to a WEEE collection point at the end of its life, not to mixed waste. Return Li-Ion batteries used with the saw to battery collection or to the retailer; tape the battery terminals before transport, and do not transport a damaged battery. Recycle a worn chain and bar in metal collection.
