Sanders are power tools for levelling surfaces, removing old paint and finishing surfaces with sandpaper or a grinding bit. The group includes random orbital sanders, finishing sanders, wall sanders and die grinders. Sanders are used in construction and renovation work, joinery and painting, repair shops and households.

Selection criteria

  • Random orbital sander: a round sanding pad, for example 125 mm, sands efficiently and leaves an even finish on wood and paintwork.
  • Finishing sander: the rectangular sanding plate reaches into corners and edges and is used to finish flat surfaces.
  • Wall sander: a large round sanding head, for example 215 mm, is intended for sanding plasterboard and filler surfaces on walls and ceilings.
  • Die grinder: a slim machine for grinding bits in tight spots, for deburring metal and for grinding shapes.

Frequently asked questions about sanders

What is the difference between a random orbital sander and a finishing sander? A random orbital sander sands with a rotating and oscillating motion and removes material faster. A finishing sander vibrates on a rectangular plate and reaches into corners. What is used to sand a filled wall? A wall sander. Its large sanding head covers a wide area, and the long body reaches up to the ceiling.
