A simple invention that changed surface finishing

Before 1960, surface finishing was done almost exclusively with brushes made of natural bristle or nylon, which often left marks or shed bristles into fresh paint. Jen Manufacturing changed the game by bringing a brush made of polyurethane foam to market. This innovation allowed a thin, even application that had previously been possible only with spray painting.

Today Jen Manufacturing (Jen Mfg) still operates in Massachusetts, USA, and makes millions of brushes every year. Although there are numerous copies on the market, the original "Jen Poly Foam Brush" is still the professionals' favourite thanks to its optimal density and absorbency. It is an inexpensive tool that produces a valuable result.

  • AffordabilityJen brushes are so affordable that you can throw them away after use with a clear conscience, which saves time on cleaning.
  • Made in USAJen Manufacturing still makes its products in the United States, which guarantees consistent quality and material control.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Jen brush be used with all paints?

Not quite all. It is excellent for water-based paints, oil paints, varnishes and stains. Avoid strong solvents such as acetone, shellac or 2-component epoxies, however, which can melt the foam.

Are the brushes disposable?

Yes, they are designed as "throw-away" tools. Although water-based paint can be washed out and the brush reused, most professionals switch to a new one for each job to ensure a clean result.

Why choose Jen instead of a cheaper copy?

Jen uses a patented cell structure and an internal stiffener. Cheap copies are often "floppy", absorb paint unevenly or fall apart mid-job, leaving pieces of foam on the surface.

What is a foam brush best for?

It is unbeatable for applying clear varnishes (e.g. polyurethane) and stains to wooden surfaces, because it does not make the product foam and does not leave brush streaks.

Who imports Jen foam brushes into Finland?

Toolcat Oy is the importer and distributor of Jen products in Finland. We stock Jen original Poly Foam brushes in Vantaa and deliver to resellers, online retailers and professional users throughout Finland, the Nordic countries and the Baltics.

Can Jen products be bought wholesale for resale?

Yes. We sell only to businesses. A foam brush is a disposable product bought by the pack: low unit price, high turnover and a good margin on the painting supplies shelf. Open a business customer account to see your contract prices in the webshop and order on invoice.
